New Guy Being Blonde
« on: September 06, 2005, 12:53:03 AM »
Hey everybody!

First off let me just say that I love this web site, particularly the forums. They have been so helpful...apart from the times I'm being blonde and the SEARCH feature doesn't work out for my question. Life for example, right now.  :-[

My situation is like this: I live in the United States and she lives in England...Sound familiar yet? Anyhow, we recently got engaged ;D and we're in the process of planning everything, etc. Main thing right now, however, is of course getting me over there. There's the fiancé visa route that I've read about on the Home Office website. That's actually the way I'm leaning towards even though we don't like it.

Recently, however, I came upon information about the Visit-to-Marry Visa and I tried searching the forum but came up drawing a blank. So I was hoping that some of you Immigration Super Rock Stars out there had some information on whether or not it was possible to go in that direction since from the information I've read from the Home Office seems to make it sound like a visa for people who just want to get married in the UK instead of a UK citizen wanting to marry a foreigner, etc.

Any information would be greatly, greatly appreciated.  :-*

I can't help you with the (fiance) visa issues, but your tag made me laugh - I say that to my husband still and we have been married 9 years  ::) ~ so I wanted to say Welcome and there will be a bunch of others who will be able to help you with the immigration questions.

Good Luck

As far as I understand it, the visit-marriage visa is for people who aren't intending to settle in the UK...if you do want to move there, you'd need a fiancee visa.
Now a triple citizen!

Springhaze is right, the visit-to-marry visa is for foreign couples who want a wedding in Scottish castle or the like.  They come over, get married and then both leave promptly.  It is not a settlement visa, which is what you want.  I'd recommend the fiance visa.  What about it don't you like the sound of?  It's very simple and straight forward...espeically if you're already engaged.

the fiancee visa's a breeze (at least through NY consulate), just a matter of a few straightforward questions and gathering up various documentation.
