I'm doing an MBA in Service Sector Management. Already I've got a gig helping my tutor with some administrative review stuff, and I might eventually get paid! My thesis topic is coming along too after a chat with my tutor.
I really like QMUC. It's really homey here. They are small enough so that I've been able to meet people outside my department. Still, they have more than 4000 students now, so they are going for the University designation instead of university college. One of these days I'll look up what a university college is.
My sister and niece both attend QMUC, so I knew a lot about the school before I applied. After spending years at Harvard, I wanted a school whose faculty does research and has great instructors. (I'm spoiled!) I admit it, I did look at Oxford and Cambridge because I wanted the best program. I found exactly what I needed at QMUC. An added advantage is because I'm attending a Scottish school, I can take advantage of the Fresh Talent program. It will allow me to work in Scotland for 2 years after I graduate without needing a workpermit. That will come later, I hope.
About honors degrees--at Harvard a 3.00-3.33 GPA is equivalent to a 2.2, 3.34-3.67 is a 2.1, and 3.68 and above is a first. When I have the time for a tirade, I'll go off on UK employers asking for a first degree and 20 years experience. No matter what one does professionally, the GPA haunts you forever!
