Evidence Of Accommodation
« on: September 11, 2005, 07:39:22 PM »
Hello everybody.
First I want to say that I LOVE this forum and everything I have read here has been very helpful.
However I am still a little cofunsed with something and need some advice.
My husband just got a job in the UK (he is British) and we are planning to go near the 10th of October.
We are planning to stay with his parents for 2 weeks and in that time look for a place to rent (near Marlow).
We have to apply for my visa but I do not know what to write for the "Evidence Of Accommodation".
Do we say that we are staying in a Hotel while looking for a placeto rent?
So we dont get things complicated with my husband's parents. They are very OLD and we do not want to
ask them to find "Title deeds",making letters, etc.,etc.
My husband has had a Bank Account in the UK forever and he has enough money there for the "soft landing"
and to pay 1 year of rent.
So, what do we do?
Thanks in advance.

You tell the truth.  Always.  It's the golden rule of getting a visa; you never, ever lie.  Especially on a written application.  If you can't get a copy of lease or mortgage, etc., surely his parents can manage a letter of support stating it is okay for you to stay there for awhile?  If he's got enough money for a year's worth of rent in the bank, you won't have any problem anyway.

Hi, thanks for the advice.
So you think if we did not have any family or friends in the UK to stay with, it would not be a problem
just to say that we were going to stay in a Hotel until we find a place to rent?
I just want to understand everything and of course not mess up my application.
THanks a lot.

Well, I couldn't really say, to be honest.  I expect they won't actually like the idea of a hotel being your place of accomodation.  It would be best if you had a real place to stay when you arrive.  Can he come to the UK and sort this out before you arrive?

Otherwise, if you're staying with his parents you'd better just come out and say so.  If you're not going to be staying with his parents, I'd at least make sure you have arrangements in place at a B&B or something and give them the address.  (I'm not sure this will work though, I have to admit.  I can't recall if we've had that sort of situation come up here before.)

Well thanks again. [smiley=daisy.gif]
My husband will probably have a meeting in London next week and he is going to check
some flats and if this is possible rent something, so we can apply with a lease agreement, to make
matters easier.
Have a great day!

Hi

Saying that you are staying in an hotel until you find a place to live is not a problem as long as you can give the name and address of the hotel and show that you can afford to stay there.  If his new employers are paying, then get a letter from them to say that.

As Wishstar has said, always tell the truth.  These peopel are trained to sniff out lies!
