Huh?    It's perfectly legal to overtake a bus so long as you can do so in safety.  And yes, that includes school buses.

The examiner was talking utter garbage.  It might be worth a letter to the test center complaining about this.

(Yeah, Paul takes on the bureaucrats again...... :D )

Exactly!  DH was once failed for not overtaking a bus . . .  :-\\\\

Hi Guys,

I'm still a bit perplexed myself but such is life I guess... It was a 1 way street and there was plenty of room to overtake.. He said I had done it once before but again the bus was stopped at a bus stop but he said he gave me the benefit of the doubt because there was traffic behind.  I know I passed two buses because I've always been hesitant about overtaking them, my instructor always said if it's safe to do so get on with it. So that's what I did.  The thing is if I hadn't of passed them would he have gotten me for hesitantcy? (sp)

I really don't want to write the test center or appeal at this point because I don't want to be known  as a problem to the other examiners.   Next time I will have Ian, my instructor, in back and I will pass my test.

But yeah it still pisses me off because if it had been unsafe to do so in any way I wouldn't have overtook the bus(es).

Hi Maureen:

My husband is also shocked about that. He suggests you write to appeal/contest the failure, stating in the letter the road and traffic conditions surrounding the overtake manouver of the bus. Sounds like the examiner was being too picky or biased. Then take you test at a different centre. I don't know where you live, so hopefully that is an option for you.

Best of luck!!!
