Tang
« on: September 12, 2005, 12:06:52 PM »
Was in Chinatown on Saturday in Manchester checking out a few of the smaller grocery stores in my never ending quest to find Japanese food and you'll never guess what I can across.....

Yup as the subject says, TANG!!!  They all carry both the original orange flavour as well as grape.  It's under 2.00 for a bag that makes 4 quarts.  (Think that's right, I'm at work at the mo.)
They also have Lipton Instant Ice Tea in the same sort of packaging for the same sorta price.
Now, I can't remember if I like Tang or not, as it's been years since I had any but had to buy it anyways.   ;D :P

Yuck...I remember having Tang a few times as a child...bleck! But, it is always fun to find these things from the past, isn't it?! (I have no idea, but maybe Tang has always been hanging around on the shelves since the 60's and I just never noticed it 'cause I wasn't looking?!) Wasn't it promoted as a drink of the astronauts? Seem to remember a commercial blurb from way back then.... ::)

That's my memory of it too! I don't remember liking it much tho. I think my mom watered it down too much lol.

i had tang as a kid, we'd have our moms send it to us at camp and eat it raw, on our fingers, to get sugar highs

did it with coolaid too

in HS, when i was working late into the night on our theatre company shows, i'd take a small water bottle, fill it with about 3-4tbsp of tang and the rest water.  quadruple stregnth!!!!!  i was off the wall!

Both Tang and Lipton instant ice tea are used to make Russian Tea...that is the ONLY way we ever drank Tang growing up.   There is nothing like a nice sweet hot cup of Russian tea ( Orange and spice) when you come in from the cold wet snow :D
btw, from what I understand Russian tea is comperable to Wassail
Only Time will tell.. it's just too bad she's a closed mouth B**!!!

I've never heard of Russian Tea...and I'm married to a Russian! Is this something concocted in the states way back when/certain geographical area?

There's nothing Russian about this, geally.  It does make for a nice camp drink whilst backpacking or winter hiking, however.

RUSSIAN TEA

Ingredients
**************
1 cup instant tea (If preferred, 1) cup)
2 cups Tang
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 pkg. Wylers lemonade mix
1 1/2 cups sugar (or less)

Procedure
*************
Mix all together and keep in tightly covered jar. Use approximately two heaping teaspoons for one cup of tea.

Agreed...even worse than Tang! I remember moms making it for birthday parties. I was kinda lucky as my mom was sort of a "health nut" back then...no Wonder bread, bologna or Fluff for me. She did make me drink skim milk though...which was blue and watery back then for some reason. No wonder I didn't drink much milk until I got pregnant with my first child!

This does sound good. Wonder why I've never heard of this before? Thanks for the recipe.
