You're welcome...they pick up every hour just outside the door from arrivals.

Now I'm actually rethinking the rental car in Bangor.... see my husband has to get the train to Atlanta from Portland, so it might make sense to get the car from Portland so I can drop him off.....have to put on my thinking cap!  [smiley=idea2.gif]

I think that you'll find it much easier to get around if you come and go through Portland. There are also alot of really great towns to visit from Portland versus from Millinocket and or Bangor. Just my two cents.

A train journey from Portland to Atlanta?  My god, how long does that take?
It reminds me of our Amtrak trip from Albuquerque to Flagstaff and how the train originated in Chicago and went to L.A., I think that was a 2 or 3 day journey!

It sounds like everybody thinks Maine is absolutely lovely although there could be less to do and bad weather conditions around Christmas.
Still, I suppose as long as it doesn't snow bad enough that we can't get back to Boston then I wouldn't mind, I don't think.  Maybe if we stay in the Portland area we'll be ok.  Is there lots to do in Portland or is it somewhere you wouldn't want to stay more than a day or so?

Thanks,
Matt

We've changed our minds and now intend to fly to New York, spend a couple days there and take the train to Baltimore.  A friend in NYC has just had a baby so we're hoping to catch up with him!  Also, it's cheaper for the flights and train and from the sounds of it, some of the parks and whatnot will be shut down in Maine anyway.  Perhaps we'll have to make a trip in Spring or Autumn when the leaves fall.

I was surprised how cheap it is to fly to NY during that time of year, I definitely thought it'd be more.

I can't wait....although weather.com is confusing the heck out of me....what to pack....looks like I have to take a little bit of everything....although the temps are 70's - in the mountains that will be much cooler.....

I am sitting on pins and needles....I wanna go NOW!!!  ;D

I don't mean to hijack ... but I'm trying to work out what to pack for my trip to New England next week. Aaaarrrgggh! This is the worst time of the year in terms of figuring out what to take! The other day it was 89 there, but it could get down to the 40s at night. Yeesh.

Hijack over.

Have a fabulous time, Matt and Icicle!!  <not intending to start a scandal by implying you're traveling together! ;) >

I'm in Maine and give you an idea of our weather. The kids are still wearing shorts and skirts to school and are usually not needing sweaters or jackets in the morning. Has still been in the 70's and low 80's some days. It has been dropping quite a bit at night and we have only needed light swaters in the evening. Have a nice trip.

Got your PM. Looks like we're missing each other by 24 hours! It would have been cool!

Of course I can't change my flight....already tried to come back later and leave sooner!  Silly *restricted flight* rules! LOL  Yikes that reminds me - need to order my travelers cheques!!
