"I'm not in Kansas anymore"
« on: September 15, 2005, 01:28:07 PM »
Just been outside having a smoke, (I know...my bad) and my mind was wandering as it does thinking about the "fine rain that soaks you though" here in England and a question popped up.

What was the first thing that jolted you into thinking "I'm not in Kansas anymore"??

For me, I think it was the first time we went to a Chinese restaurant.  When the waitress came to take our order, she spoke with a Mancunian accent, as opposed to an American accent.  I remember sitting at the table and being really thrown by that.  It may be wrong of me, but all I could think of at the time was, hang on a minute, why does she have such a funny accent.

I mean this honestly and sincerely and without sarcasm.  I really tried to answer the question, but it was so long ago, I don't remember.

When i went for a run/walk while visiting here one time on the canal path while it was misty fine rain and bit chilly - I wore sweats and a long sleeve shirt. I came back so cold, chilled to the bone and mad that I went out. I was walking involuntarily outside today and it's about the same weather - then it clicked, it's going to be like this for the next 9 months.  :-\\\\

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

Well, for me -- I do recall about 8 years ago, as I was driving east on I-70, and I saw the signs telling me that I had crossed the Missouri state line. ;)

No, there's no actual law against it.    I'll post a new topic with an explanation later.  I don't want to hijack the thread with one of my technical lectures........ ;)
