Need information on fiance visa
« on: September 16, 2005, 04:26:37 PM »
Within the next 2 yrs I want to move to England to live with my boyfriend. He says that I will be able to apply for a fiance visa even though we dont actually plan on getting married. can someone give me some info on how this will work or a good website that explains it?

While you may manage getting a fiance visa it will only be good for 6 months. If you don't marry within those 6 months you will have to leave the country. If you're not planning on getting married then a fiance visa is not an option.

You need to show proof that you intend to get married before they'll issue you a fiance visa....there are a lot of threads about it in the visa section of this forum.  Also, check out www.britainusa.com.

well neither one of us want to get married, ever.  We have both agreed that we would be perfectly happy just living together and marriage is just something we dont want.  I really dont want to find out that my only option is marrying him for the wrong reasons just so that i can be with him.  Im pretty sure i wont be able to get in on any other kind of visa though.

Aradia, if you aren't planning on moving over here for possibly another two years, do you think perhaps you and your boyfriend will have changed your mind about marriage by then? I agree that it's stupid to get married just to get a visa, but a lot can happen in two years. Marriage might sound like a good idea!

There is a visa for unmarried partners but you have to have been living together for 2 years to even apply.  What about a student visa? If you could study for 2 years and live together for that time, you could then apply for the UP visa.  A student visa also allows you to work part time.

yeah that was my next thought. I figured if we can make a long distance relationship work for 3 yrs than marriage should be a picnic.  but i bet a divorce would be really nasty and as much as i love him, i know we wont be together for ever.  geez, this international stuff is a real pain.

You don't need to prove that you will marry to get a fiance visa, as that is often not possible, but you do need to have the intention.  As has been said, at the moment you can apply for an unmarried partner visa if you can prove that you have been living together for two years.  Time spent on visit visas can count towards this.

You really need to have a good search through the UK VVisas website to see what other categories fit.  If you are a student or recently graduated, perhaps a BUNAC would be suitable.

It's not quite enough to INTEND to get married...you need to show PROOF that you intend to get married.

well thnx guys for all your help. i have no idea whats going to happen but my bf seems to have more of an idea on how this is going to happen, however all the things he tells me, is completely opposite of what i have learned  here.  His mom has her own business, she works from home and its getting bigger and busier, so we are looking at me working for her when i do move there. she will def need the extra help and I do have the skills for it. so maybe this will help. I had forgotten this detail till now.

She will have to demonstrate to the Home Office that no UK or EU national can do the job and that she's sought to hire one first.  And then it's up to the Home Office to approve your work visa, which they may or may not do.  And there is cost involved in this.

well i dont think its gonna be quite that extensive.  she just does global field work, arranging interviews with doctors and such all over the world.  she does most of the work her self, and her husband helps but they both have vision problems and cant spend to much time in front of the computer. and i have excellent computer skills, although you may not be able to tell that from my lazy typing, lol.
