BIG box/tub of Bicarb of Soda/Baking Soda
« on: September 17, 2005, 04:16:04 PM »
Anyone know where I can source a larger than normal box or tub of bicarb of soda?  I tried Costco, but no joy.   :\\\'(

Have been using a good homemade recipe for fabric softener, but would like to be able to make a larger quantity of it, hence the need for a larger amount of bicarb of soda.

TIA if anyone knows!

Woohoo!  Just went for the 5kg.  That should do us a while.  I like to buy in bulk so running out is one less thing I have to be arsed about for a while.

Bath bombs.  Erm, no, can't say I make those.  That's what LUSH is for.   ;D

Of course! Lush don't make Chanel (or whatever is your current fave right now!) infused bathbombs ;)

I use an old milk jug for this.

2 cups white vinegar
2 cups bicarb of soda
4 cups water

The bicarb and vinegar fizz, so combine slowly.  I also add a FEW drops of essential oil.  NO more than 20 b/c the stuff intensifies.

I add about half a cup to the final rinse and it works brilliantly.  Better than just vinegar.  Makes the clothes soft.

I also use bicarb to make Kim and Aggie's surface cleanser, which I pinched out of their book, but add essential oils to:

500ml water, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon of washing up liquid, 1 tablespoon bicarb and 1 teaspoon of borax.  To this I add 1 drop tea tree, 2 drops lavender, 3 drops lemon and 3 drops orange oils.  Pour into spray bottle and give it a shake before spraying.

You've got to give the fabric softener a good shake before dispensing.  I do it over the sink and then decant.  And go easy on the scent - it really does become stronger.

The Kim and Aggie surface cleanser works a treat.
