the waiting game for spousal visa
« on: September 22, 2005, 03:04:36 PM »
Well,

Thanks to everyone's advice I came back to the US on 1 September and went through immigrations without a problem.  The officer just asked me how long I was in the UK for, and when I said, "5 months, 28 days" he asked who I stayed with and when I told him my fiance he asked me if I got a job while I was over there and I said I hadn't and that my fiance supported me and that I had a copy of his wage slips and a letter from him stating how he supported me.  The officer didn't even look at them and let me through!  I had a harder time with Customs and they even took my wedding dress out and flipped through all my visa information I had gathered before letting me go.

Fiance came through on 15 September and didn't have a hard time whatsoever telling them he was there to get married.

We were married on 20 September at 9:00 a.m. and then high-tailed it down to the main county court office in downtown Fort Worth to get a certified copy of the marriage certificate and then found a FedEx place.  We paid $48 to have it priority overnighted to the LA consulate and they were meant to receive it yesterday morning.  So now we're enjoying the rest of our honeymoon and waiting for this visa!

Thanks for everyone's advice and help and I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Update:  We just checked our e-mail and have received an auto-message from the LA consulate that says:

"Your application has been approved and your visa has been issued."  !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought LA didn't send e-mails??  And also, that has to be some kind of record...they received our documents yesterday morning!!!

Nevertheless, I am SO happy and EXCITED!!  I was so worried we wouldn't get it back in time for our trip home on 4 October, but it sounds to me we'll have it back in plenty of time.  Thanks again for all the advice!
