Yes, I'm really moving....
« on: September 22, 2005, 04:13:54 PM »
Yes, it could be permanent.

Yes, the kids are excited.

No, I don't plan on moving back any time soon.

No, I don't want to take a 'leave of absence' from my job so I can 'try it out' for a few months.

No, I'm not worried about any 'freedoms' you think I'm giving up by moving to Scotland.

No, I'm not going to miss the heat.

Yes, they do speak English.

Yes, I can understand what people say.

Yes, I really DO want to leave the US.

YES, I REALLY HAVE GIVEN THIS SOME THOUGHT....IT'S NOT A SPUR OF THE MOMENT THING/PASSING FANCY/ETC.!!!

Aargh!!!  Seems like this is how EVERY conversation goes any more!  I'm 36 years old, for heaven's sake.  Do you really think I would do this (w/my kids, no less) if I hadn't done a little research/thought it through?  >:(
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I know exactly how you feel.  When I told everyone I was moving I got the same treatment.  It's as if people think we just make these decisions without thinking first, when we are generally very intellegent and rational people.  Why is it that leaving makes people think we've gone into a state of temporary insanity?

I feel for ya.  Keep doing what you know is right for YOU.  :)

add me to the group!! and what really makes me angry is when people tell me in no uncertain terms that I'll be back. Excuse me but thats what I'm doing now. Going back home (for good).

They do that to me, too!!!  >:(  "EVERYONE who's ever lived in the US and then moves to another country always ends up coming back.  I won't be surprised to see you back here in 6 months.  Blah, blah, blah...."

Yeah, it's rather annoying when people don't think you're steadfast in your decisions.  When I quit my job in the U.S. before the move, they started taking bets on when I'd be back.

Aaaargh!
I've just put my house on the market and started tossing or selling everything I own in preparation for my move over in January.  And SO FAR my family have been absolute stars....BUT...I still get comments from acquaintences & co-workers about how I'm "not going to like it over there."  REALLY?  You know that for a fact, do you?  I have to bite my tongue and just smile.  It's just not worth it.

I count myself as being very lucky because I had the full support of my friends, family and coworkers when I told them I was moving over here.  I can't recall ever hearing a negative comment.   I can only imagine how annoying it would be to hear those types of comments all the time.  Just stand your ground!!  Good luck to you and yours for a safe and easy move, closet.hippie!   :D

What's funny is that once you're here you might get the same comments from the locals!

I get  many "why are you living here when you could be in the states...wish I could move there" comments once people realize where I am originally from.

I hadn't really thought about it, but I do get asked that very question quite often, also.   So, closet.hippie be prepared to possibly answer more questions once you arrive. ;D

Yes, I get that all the time too. Why would you leave California to come here?? And my family were awful too. Wasn't hardly even on speaking terms with my parents when I left, but it's been three years now, and they are all ok now.
