Halloween
« on: October 10, 2003, 01:51:11 AM »
Hi!
Starting to get in the Halloween spirit.. :D

Does anyone know where to get a large pack (30-50) of small Halloween paper bags to put candy in for trick-or-treaters?  (I found some very pricey big bags with only 8 in a pack.)
I'm expecting a horde this year!

Thanks,
Moose

Try Asda.  The last time we went they had loads of cheap decorations and things.

Thanks Mindy - I'll try Asda, (I haven't checked this year).

Litl u.  -- I think you've hit the problem -- perhaps most people aren't getting many trick-or-treaters.  Is this true?
(I never did until I moved to Suffolk and a street that happens to have lots of families with kids)  I do confess with two jack-o'-lanterns in the window and Indian corn hanging over the door (with various spiders of course) I do my bit to advertise!  ;D

Cheers,
Moose

We've never had any in all the time we've lived here. But I keep thinking that I should have something just in case. Would hate to answer the door and not be prepared. Knowing me, in my embarrasment and fumbling to hide my lack of preparation, I'd probably toss them my checkbook.

Ooh, where do you live in Suffolk, Moose?
My parents-in-law live near Mildenhall and they have trick-or-treaters(I was so thrilled to give out candy last year!) because there's an American Air Force base in Mildenhall and thereby loads of American kiddies, then the English kiddies caught on because they were being left without candy. ;)
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

My best friend has accused me of losing my halloween spirit because this year I've bought a pre-carved fake pumpkin that plugs in and lights up instead of carving one myself and using a candle. [smiley=laugh.gif] She said "first you have a fake Christmas tree now a fake pumpkin..what's next??" ::)

But where I live there aren't really any trick or treaters...maybe one or two if any so it's just not fun any more. :-/

I carved a really cool jack-o-lantern last year and nobody even saw it. :( On the front it had 2 rats carved into it and on the back it projected up on the wall behind it the shadow of a cat with glowing eyes looking down on the rats. I didn't even take pictures of it because I was out of film. Such a bummer. :-/

Does anybody remember trick or treating as a kid and getting some of that nasty halloween candy in the orange and black wrappers? What the heck is that stuff?? :-X

I've always tried to give out good candy. I remember as a kid always knowing which houses were the ones who gave out the good candy. Word would spread on the streets and everybody would keep going back to the same houses hoping they wouldn't be found out for already having been there. [smiley=laugh.gif]

Yeah, what is it with people not giving out cool candy? I always made sure I did too. None of this cheap stuff.

Oh man....I just remembered Baby Janes. Must put those on my list for the end of this week. Hmm, come to think of it, we'll be in the US just in time to stock up on really cool Halloween candies!

I don't know if anyone else has had this happen --

This past Saturday I decorated for halloween... put up the banners, hung up my cobwebs, bought my pumpkins, plugged in my fake pumpkin, etc.

Everytime someone sees them, they say, "It's not Halloween yet!"   EVERY TIME!  I don't get it -- these same people don't decorate for Chrismas on Christmas day, so why is this such a mind-boggler??

I just don't get it.  *shrug*

Regardless, I'm dead chuffed about my decorations... Thank you ASDA!
