Had a Pre-Eclampsia scare today
« on: September 30, 2005, 10:24:30 PM »
I had to go to my GP today for a routine antenatal check up. After testing my blood pressure and urine, he tells me I have to get to the hospital right away :o, not a good thing to hear when you think you're just going in for a general visit lol. Apparently my blood pressure was very high and there was +1 protein in my urine which made him think I might have pre-clampsia,so after he scared me by talking about how they might be inducing me today, I was rushed to the hospital. There my blood pressure was still high but this time I had +2 protein, ,so after blood and urine tests and waiting 3 hours to hear the results I was told "Oh your blood tests show you don't have pre-clampsia,we aren't sure why you have the protein, your urine test isn't back yet"  ::)
But since my blood pressure is so high now my midwife has to come around every other day to take my blood pressure. Usually my blood pressure is  110/60, today it was 134/86 :o ... A bit scary for me because I never had any problems with my pregnancy before :(

Yikes!

I had pregnancy induced hypertension - no protein in the urine, but hypertension and LOTS of awful oedema.  It was so bad I lost 3 stone in the 5 days after the birth.  It stayed about 150/90 and I did have to be medicated and monitored.  Spent a lot of time in hospital but it was so dire I'd always beg them to let me home.

Still went into labour naturally at 38 weeks - just days before they were going to induce me - and had a vaginal delivery and stable BP throughout labour, so keep up the positive thoughts!

Take it easy - especially as it's your first and you don't have to chase after an older one.

I'm glad that you're home and feeling a bit better.  I also had high blood pressure at the very end (140/90!!), but never tested positive for pre-clampsia.  I did end up being induced, and my pressure came back to normal within 12 hours of delivery.  It was a hectic week while they tried to figure it all out, but in the end I had a wonderful baby who was happy and healthy.

Sorry, my brain is a little fried right now.  Here's what I'm trying to say - - stay positive!  All this means is that your lovely daughter will be arriving soon.  So exciting!!  :)

Is it called "Pre-clampsia" in the UK?  Here it's "pre-eclampsia".

It is the same in both countries!

I had a pre eclampsia scare with Philip as well, and so I can sympathize with how scary it can be - you are luicky to have a foot massage generator nearby, make good use of it. :) Good luck - you are in the homestretch now!
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

If you're reading this, drink more water!  Lots.  Like 3 litres/day.
