Reality is setting in...
« on: October 01, 2005, 06:16:51 PM »
I've not once questioned whether or not I'm making the right decision to move w/the kids to Scotland, but I'm starting to get anxious about how much there is left to do!  It's my going away do for work tonight....hate those things, really dislike being the center of attention....but it's bringing home the fact that I am moving in a month!!!

I still need to arrange for transportation for the UK portion of our trip.  Still need to get the ex's birth certificate and the girls' passport photos taken so I can get their visas.  Still have loads to wrap up at work here, and I'm sending out loads of applications for jobs in Scotland.  Not sure where we're going to live yet, so I can't proceed w/getting the girls set up for school yet.  Haven't finished going through all my storage yet, nor have I had the yard sale I was intending to have.  And I still have loads to ship to my auntie's house (mostly books).  I know it will all work out in the end, but my stress level is way up at the moment!!!  Somebody please tell me it'll be ok!  :-\\\\

When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

It'll be ok, just take a deep breath, do a priority list, (that's what I did) and concentrate on getting one thing done at a time, before you know it, you'll be here looking around, going, 'WOW! What did I just do??' But in a good way, I might add.

Well, survived the going-away party, and I think I've stopped hyperventilating!!!  Spent quite a bit of time last night making a prioritized list...there's still a ton to do, but at least once it's written down it seems a bit more manageable.  And if I don't get to the stuff on the bottom of the list...at least the critical stuff will have been taken care of!

(Must go now....got to start assembling boxes....after I take the girls in for their photos for their visas.....)

When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

At least you dont have to worry about going to work for awhile... that will free you up to try to tackle your list!

Just try to take each thing as it comes, and you'll be surprised at how quickly everything comes together!  I remember panicking at the last minute, but things have a way of working themselves out.   ;)

closet hippie...you sound just like me hunny..I'm moving in a month to and havent had the yard sale, still waiting on the girls passports to come, havent called a travel agent yet or booked the tickets, havent sold any furniture or the car, dont even know the names of schools out there that I need to enroll my son in, it feels overwhelming but just take 1 day at a time...I am happy to say I managed to clean out all my closets and have given some valuables to freinds.  and got mine and my sons visa sorted..just waiting for the girls british passports to come back now.  I will feel so much more at ease once my feet are standing on the dirt in the IOM.

I work for the government....you don't think they'd actually hold my going-away do after I'd finished working, do you?  ;D  (That would be way too logical!)

I'm actually working part-time through most of the month, 2-3 days per week, wrapping things up and training my replacement.  It'll also allow me to put a few extra $$$ in the bank.  I did tell them I was basically working on MY terms, though....apart from payroll (gotta' be done at a certain time) I'll come in when and as I can.  Now I just need to follow through and learn to say 'NO' when they ask me to do things I don't have time to do.... :-\\\\

I think my biggest worry is the girls' visas.  Ex was really dragging his feet w/the whole passport/birth certificate issue.  I called his mom and asked if SHE had a copy of his birth certificate, but he took all that stuff years ago.  Now he says he doesn't have any of it.  So I'm going to have to order a copy of his bc.  I guess I may be taking a trip to LA this month to take care of the visas in person instead of getting the application in by mail....sigh....

Thanks for the encouragement....I'm feeling a bit more positive today! :)

I cant believe what a bunch of greedy slavedrivers your employers are!
Maybe i have been out of the USA for too long, but i dont know ANYBODY who would do what you're doing for that lot!  Particularly after they manipulated you out of quitting when you were originally going to quit!   >:(

Nah, I just tend towards the 'passive agressive' end of the spectrum.  Just wait 'till they're looking for that ONE file on a certain subject....oh dear, did I misfile it?.....mwhahahaha!!!  >:D

I hope you didn't leave them any contact details here in Scotland!  Think I'd leave them a phone number that spells out 'bog off'.   ;D
