No address, what type of mobile phone to get?
« on: October 02, 2005, 03:27:47 PM »
I'm staying in a hostel and looking for work.  I think it would be more fruitful if I had a mobile phone.  But I dont actually have an address.  I heard this was possible with some phones where you can buy chips that have a certain number of minutes or something.  Any idea?  Im in Ireland, actually but its probably not much different (if at all)

Yep, you can get a pay-as-you-go mobile phone.  Probably the easiest route to go until you're settled.
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

yup pay as you go. With the phone you get a sim-card and a top up card. You can top up the card  (get credit) at a lot of places here. The least you can top up for is £10, although t-mobile does £5. Theres not minutes but depending on your network, some calls are around 30p a minute.texts are around 10p a text

Thanks, I got one for under 50 euro.  Seems to be what I was looking for.

My wife only paid 39 quid for her pay-as-you go phone from Link (MUCH better customer service than Carphone Warehouse). It's a Virgin Siemens and very reasonable rates.
