I don't make stuffing..i make dressing..cause I don't like eating the stuffing from the Turkey..I always think it isn't cooked enuf..

I make a pan of cornbread several days in advance..crumble it up and let it go hard...if you don't have time for that bake it and then crumble and put back in oven to go hard..

I then get bread crumbs and depending on how much i need mix equal parts of the cornbread and breadcrumbs..

One medium onion diced and several stalks of celery..put in large mixing bowl along with the bread mixture..and poultry seasonings, salt and pepper to taste..then I make a stock from chicken oxo and water and make several cups of this up and pour all over this mixture until very soggy almost watery. Spray baking dish with mazola and put in dish until at a good level and cover with foil and bake..sometimes i add more stock if it looks to dry

I make the same recipe my Mom has made for years using Bell's Seasoning and everyone loves it! I tend to stuff the bird with some and make the rest in a pan. Do you have access to Bell's? It's wonderful!!

I've made this before and it's fantastic!!!  But be sure to add a bit of poultry seasoning - just a bit to get that nice sage flavor.

INGREDIENTS:

8 cups cubed white bread (about 16 slices)
1 pound pork sausage
1 large onion, diced
2 large apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon salt
PREPARATION:

Spread bread cubes on large cookie sheets; place in a 250° oven for 10 minutes, until dry. Remove from oven and set aside.
Brown sausage in a skillet; breaking up larger pieces. Cook until no longer pink, fully cooked.

With a slotted spoon, remove sausage to a large bowl and combine with bread cubes.
Pour off all but 1 to 2 tablespoons of drippings from skillet. Add onions; sauté until tender. Stir in water and apples; heat to boiling. Pour over bread and sausage mixture; add salt; toss lightly until evenly moist.
Makes enough to stuff a 10 to 12-pound turkey - or bake in a pan till browned.

I'm a big fan of Stovetop stuffing  ;D  Easy and always tastes great! I hate when my grandma makes stuffing and gets carried away with the sage  :P

MeShell and Lizanne thank you for the recipes...they both sound delicious!! I just happen to have enough corn meal to make one more batch of cornbread too. I think. Have you found corn mean in the UK?

JennyDee, I have never heard of Bells seasoning, so i dont know if they have that here or not. I am still looking for poultry seasoning.

Sillysnip I love stovetop but have not seen that here either, have you?

I have just learned we do not have a waitrose anywhere near, so i dont know where i am going to get pumpkin!

Thanks Liza, I had no idea as I have never shopped for it there. One more thing I can make for my attempt at Thanksgiving dinner then!  ;D

Sorry Liza...but the Paxo stuffing just doesn't taste the same as Stove top....

Easy to use same concept but the taste is totally different. SillySnip it is nice..but don't expect the fluffy stovetop variety.

But then it is marketed to people with different taste isn't it.. :)

I totally agree, the Paxo stuff (no pun intended ;D) is just heavier and denser than stovetop. Thats one of the things I keep forgetting to ask for from back home!

oooo for leftovers after holidays I'd love to take the turkey chop it up and mix it in with the stovetop stuffing. I need to get someone to ship me over some stovetop.

this is a bit off topic, but I totally miss as well the Betty Crocker mixes like hamburger helper, and tuna helper, and the au gratin potatos, and all those others that I can't think of!!
