oh no! what about coffee creamer!?
« on: October 06, 2005, 05:11:00 PM »
So, when I was there in May, we went to Tesco (i dont like tesco) since its walking distance from Richs house.  And being a coffee drinker, I wanted the creamer I put in it.  The coffeemate fat free stuff, I love the vanilla flavor.  Anyhow, I couldnt find any!  I bought whole milk.  ALL THAT FAT!  Oh but it taste sooooo good!  What the heck am I gonna put in my coffee there?!?!?!?!??  And no, not that powdered stuff!  HA!

we use condensed milk... lots of fat and sugar, but tastes soooo good.  They do a 'lite' version which is meant to be lower fat.    My personal opinion is that coffee SHOULD have some dairy fat in it... that's what makes it taste so good!  ;)

I miss all the good Coffeemate stuff from home. Between that and there being no Starbucks in Carlisle, coffee has become a rare thing for me instead of a daily ritual.

I never used Coffeemate because it is made with trans-fats (partially hydrogentated oil)...yes, even the fat free stuff.  It's artificial.

If you are looking for a low fat and truly healthy alternative to whole milk or single cream here, I suggest what I use: soya cream.  The company Alpro Soya has a good one; it is extremely tasty.  It gives you the rich taste of cream without the dairy, the fat, or the hydrogentated oil (which is super bad for you).  Don't use soya milk, however; it works in tea, but it seperates in coffee.  Only the soya cream works in coffee.  It tastes a lot like condensed milk, just without all the fat and sugar of it. :) Nice.

soy milk seems to work better in coffee if you heat it first, no idea why. If your coffee cools too much tho it will look curdled - blech  [smiley=bleck.gif]

Totally agree about Coffeemate... i left the US before all the flavoured stuff came out, but i remember the normal plain one and thought it was vile and fake-tasting.

I have never heard about the soya cream before... will maybe try that soon, if i can find it.

We sell it at the health food shop where I work, but I have also seen it (and bought it) at Sainsbury's.

Same here. I used it back at college in the US because I had no fridge until I actually read the label and saw it was partially hydrogenated. I think coffee with real milk tastes much better anyway (even skim milk, which is what I use) and it's soooo much better for you anyway!
Plans on hold 'cuz Brexit

I've tried, I can't do it.  Unless it's iced coffee with loads of sweetener in it.   ;D

Sainsburys and Tesco used to sell half and half, but apparently they have stopped stocking it.  Waitrose is currently the only grocery store that I've seen that stocks it and they call it half cream.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …
