What's the name of the

topical anaesthetic creme sold OTC here?  It's called Emla in the States.  Is it the same here?  A pal is looking for something to help w/her son's pre-school jabs, as he's terrified of needles and going in for January reception.

TIA!

Imbedded in the middle of this thread is a short discussion re: Emla.  sold over the counter and good for pre-waxing, pre-jabs...

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

They're now selling Emla as well.

I got some, too.  Have decided to have Aillidh vaccinated against flu privately - along w/me and DH - so will be using it on her.

I don't mind the flu jab myself, but I've had so many jabs now, that one isn't bad at ALL.

A bit off topic, but speaking of flu jabs....

I normally get one, although I didn't last year due to the vaccine shortage.  But....does anyone know if it's the same vaccine in the UK as in the US?  Or are they for different strains of influenza?  I realize this might be a stupid question, but I honestly don't know the answer and don't know whether I'm better off trying to get it done here before I go or wait until I get to the UK...
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

That's a good question!  Think it's for the same strain worldwide.  The one I had last year was made in a US lab.

I buy it privately, b/c the NHS doesn't consider me 'high risk', but the thought of having influenza and being third trimester pregnant, in labour and/or breastfeeding a newborn isn't something I find particularly pleasant.  Last time I contracted influenza, I was a mountain climbing 25-year-old.

I wound up spending Xmas in hospital w/double pneumonia and it was months before I felt 100% again.

'Harmless' illness, my a*&.

I went to the Dr. on Wed. and she asked me if I wanted my name down for the flu jab and Caitie as well...we both have asthma..hers is worse than mine. So when their stock arrives I just have to go and get it jabbed.

I didn't have it last year and I so wished I had!!

We all get it every year.  I don't care if it costs £15/jab for us.  When you get REAL bona fide flu, not just some bad cold, you'd gladly pay any amount of money to make it stop!  I was fit and healthy, but it made me very ill last time round.

I had a Hong Kong version when I was in primary school and again wound up in hospital w/pneumonia.

I ride a bus during rush hours and work w/the public, too many sick people to take chances when I'm so far along or with having a newborn at home to nurse.

We're having it done Thursday.  Could have gone tomorrow, but Aillidh's got Tumble Tots so we'll wait.

Well, we had it!  Aillidh tolerated it well.  She cried a wee bit, but was running round the waiting room whilst Andrew paid up.  She was awfully curious about watching us get jabbed!

She has to go for a booster in a few weeks, cuz they only gave her a half dose.
