What did you do with your wedding dress?
« on: October 09, 2005, 12:44:02 AM »
I just got married, it was wonderful.  We bought him a new black suit, very nice, and he can wear this again and again.  But I have this beautiful dress I paid a fortune for and what the heck am I gonna do with it now??!!?!?!?  I know I know, I should put it away, just as a keepsake.  But Im curious, what did you do with yours??

Mine is stored in one of my grandmother's closets along with the other family wedding dresses (kinda neat to look at!).

Mine is hanging up in the wardrobe, in a suit bag.
I dont have a sentimental attachment to it, but it's slightly damaged, so i dont think i could sell it on ebay (it's got a chiffon skirt which got snagged in a few places..), so i will probably just donate it to charity at some stage.  I tend to forget i've even got it!

This is why I refused to pay a fortune for a dress to wear the one time. I bought a $100.00 formal but plain wedding dress which was perfect for our very small wedding. I think its hanging in my closet. I dont know what Im going to do with it. I dont have a daughter. Maybe Ill save it for one of my neices.

Same here, I didn't want to spend thousands of pounds on a dress I was only going to wear once and have it hanging in the closet for years to come.  I considered renting a wedding dress, but for the amount they charge to rent one, I just went to the shop and got a nice maternity dress for cheap and plus I can still wear it even after the wedding ;)

My dress is hanging in the closet at my Mother's house. At David's Bridal they had a preservation kit that cost around 150.00. I had planned on doing that, but I never got around to it. I have no clue what to do with it now. My hair stylist, took her dress and made a nice baby blanket out of it. I had never heard of that before, but it came out nice.

I donated my mum's vintage gown to this charity:

I hope it finds it's way to someone who will love it as much as she did. :)

Good idea EnglandsYank!  I didnt spend a lot considering the cost of a wedding dress is $700-5000 here in SF!  I know.  Its crazy.  I bought my dress right off the rack, first one I tried on and it was perfect.  Only had to have it taken in a bit.  I didnt have the 2 months to wait if I ordered one, which is what most have to do.  Think Im gonna have it cleaned and pack it away.  Another thing to ship over when I move there in January!!!!!!  ;D

I don't know what to do with mine.  It was lying on my bed at amy parents house, now it's lying somewhere in my sister's room.  Maybe I'll look into donating it to someone.

Not sure what to do with mine either -- it's boxed up (drycleaner's box) right now. Don't think I'd ever wear it again & even if I wanted to -- I'm a smaller size now than I was then - yaye! I guess it's a nice keepsake, but seems like a waste -- so I may donate or sell it on Ebay or something.  (It didn't cost a fortune, but it wasn't cheap either.)

I have some friends who turned their wedding dress into a christening gown for their kids.  I think it's a sweet idea, and a great way to keep it in the family.  Mine is in a box in the basement, and will probably remain there for all of eternity.  Not out of sentimentality but sheer laziness. ::)

It's hanging in my closet now! I can re-use it one day because it is a bridesmaid dress. Simple yet very lovely and elegant. I really like it; I bought it off someone else, because she didn't use it. I bought it last minute, about a couple of weeks before my wedding!
