Rasputin - Boney M
(the only foreign band to get permission to have a concert in Burma. At the last minute, the military pulled the plug. They were too political. Too political?! Boney M?)

The bull and the bear are marking
Their territories
They're leading the blind with
Their international glories

(and 10,000 Maniacs before they renounced him)

 ;D

Daysleeper - REM  "I'm the screen, I work at night"

There's no political solution
To our troubled evolution
Have no faith in constitution
There is no bloody revolution

Not familiar?  I thought the "ether" joke from the "general knowledge" game would be a clue.  It has the word "spirit" in the title...

Spirits In The Material World - The Police                    not ether   ;D

Dirt behind the daydream
Dirt behind the daydream
The happy ever after
Is at the end of the rainbow

White noise in a white room
White noise in a white room
White noise in a white room
White noise in a white room

Ether! (very clever ;D) Gang of Four

Her green plastic watering can
for her fake chinese rubber plant
in the fake plastic earth
That she bought from a rubber man
in a town full of rubber
Plans to get rid of itself
It wears her out

Fake Plastic Trees  - Radiohead

My daddy was a prominent frogman
My mamma's in the Naval reserve
When I was young I carried a gun
But I never got the chance to serve

Neighborhood - Space

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had

Mad World - Tears for Fears

Chapter One we didn't really get along
Chapter Two I think I fell in love with you
You said you'd stand by me in the middle of Chapter Three
But you were up to your old tricks in Chapters Four, Five and Six

mark the spot you hate with an x
then shoot your bow and arrow
do your worst get it all off your chest
i'll hold my breath and swallow
we hurt the ones we love the most
it's a subtle form of discipline
its a far better thing i do than i have ever done

I Don't Care - Shakespear's Sister

If you come down to the river,
Bet you gonna find some people who live.
You dont have to worry cause you have no money,
People on the river are happy to give

Proud Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival or Tina Turner (which you prefer?)

...standing at the fork in the road
you can stand there and agonize
Till your agony's your heaviest load
You'll never fly as the crow flies, get used to a country mile
When you're learning to face the path at your pace
Every choice is worth your while

 indigo girls   watershed

     Love of two is one
     Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn't go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
     The candles blew then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared
     Saying don't be afraid
its a far better thing i do than i have ever done

Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult

I didn't know how to deal with
And so I just decided to myself
I'd hide it to myself
And never talk about it
And didn't I go and shout it
When you walked into my room.

CCR all the way on this one. I do like Tina's version but always prefer CCR's.

I think I Love You - David Cassidy

Do the things that you always wanted to
Without me there to hold you back, don't think, just do

More than anything I want to see you, girl
Take a glorious bite out of the whole world
