What are our chances ?

My wife has become discouraged  :\\\'( after reading a bit of the immigration, job, visa, etc information.

Is there much chance of a couple of 40+ year old engineers finding good employment in Scotland, to be able to move (immigrate) there? I thought Scotland was trying to get people (EU only?) to move in, but it seems pretty difficult from here in the US.

There is a massive shortage of skilled workers in Scotland, so it should theoretically be easier for you to find employment there, although I appreciate that it may be tricky if you are currently out of the UK.

Have you looked at the HSMP programme?  If you are both skilled and qualified and have a lot of work experience, it may be that you qualify, in which case you will not need a job offer before moving across.

Please do not be discourage.
I have A LOT (more than 10) friends (with their families) who have gone  to live in Scotland in the last 2 years.
All of the Venezuelans, all of them engineers. They got first job phone interviews, then a "in person" interview,
then they got the  job. There are A LOT of companies there hiring experienced professionals.
Of course, not all the people who applied got the job, but I think you have a good chance since your main language is English.
Some of my friends who did not get hired did not have good English (like me, hahahaha ).
Good luck and keep trying, send TONS of Resumes and apply.

PS: i almost forgot, the companies gave them work permits.
