Hot Dogs
« on: October 17, 2005, 06:10:59 PM »
I know there must be a thread here somewhere about Hot Dogs, but I tried looking and didn't see any.

Anyway, I'm really craving one now.  I made the mistake of having hot dogs with sauerkraut and mustard the day before I left and now I want them all the time!  Anyone know if they have any here that taste similar to the ones in the states?  say at a deli.  Should I even ask about sauerkraut?

I buy the Herta hot dogs from Tesco. I stay away from the canned ones (blah). The Herta's arent too bad but they are skinny. Last year I ordered some nice German sausages from some German deli in London. I cant remember the link but they were really really good. I never thought to look for sauerkraut. Saunsbury's may have it or even Waitrose. Google German deli's and Im sure you will find what youre looking for. Let me know by the way!  :P

you can get sauerkraut at Sainsbury's ...we are a stone's throw from Germany...I think Sauerkraut is avail... ;D

Sadly I've not found any quality hot dogs ("quality hot dogs" that must be an oxy moron) I've had to make do with "American Style hot dogs" that are sold at Sainbury's in a Jar... :P

Good luck :)

How about the food court at Costco?  Can you still get the US style hot dogs there?  (I had [ahem  :-[] a frozen dessert the last time I was there so didn't even notice if they still served hot dogs...)

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Herta also do JUMBO frankfurters, which i buy in Sainsbury's... and they are fab.  To me, they are exactly like the hot dogs i grew up with in California.
Just my opinion, but i would avoid like the plague, any hot dogs in cans or jars.

Ikea hot dogs are really good too!!!!!!!

Oh right! Of course. I forgot you can buy the 4 pack of Herta Jumbos! And they are REALLY Jumbo. We dont get them very often because the kids prefer the skinny ones.

OK, Hotdogs in a can or jar!!!!  That is just naff!  I did look at the Sainsbury site and they have Sauerkraut, just hope they have it at the one I go to.

I think we may need to do a return at Ikea, though that is where I like to get my Swedish meatballs!!!!

Thanks!

Stacey - I am sure I have seen Saurkraut in Waitrose (ask your hubby, or is he corporate side?!)

Do you guys ever do the saurkraut in beer? My husband's family do and I thought it was the weirdest thing I ever heard - but it kinda works :)

Good Luck, nothing like having one of those cravings and needing it satisfied right NOW! :)

Herta Frankfurters are yummy.

Baring that a german onoine place place and also many delis do saurkraut but you might have to experiment as it depends on how sweet or salty you like it. :)

Hmm, good question.  I'm not sure, I think I like it in-between.

I think London could use a few "dirty water dog" stands.  Hmm . . . new business venture?
