Frozen Roast Beef in Crockpot
« on: October 19, 2005, 11:49:43 AM »
I just stuck a frozen thing of roast into the crockpot with 1 cup of water, a packet of Lipton's onion soup, and some veggies, some fresh, some frozen. Is that enough water, do you think? I stuck the crockpot on high.

Well it is smelling pretty good. I put it on high and maybe another hour or so should do it, I think. I always wondered about what sort of difference the high/med/low would make to the food. And what happens if you lift the lid, I am tempted to give it a stir now and then, how much does that affect things.

The Lipton's was sent over by my mom. One packet left. I used a whole one for this meal. I will use the last one on hamburgers I think.

lifting the lid will slow the cooking as you release all the steam which permiates the meat

it's ok to do once...but i'd not do it too much!

cooking on low for longer makes the meat more tender in my opinion!

Thanks for the tips! I will not lift the lid anymore til its done! :)
Should I leave it on high for the last hour or slow it down to med or low?

For starters go to www.argos.co.uk and do a search for slow cooker. It will bring up two pages of products, most of them on the second page, which will give you an idea of the price range and makes/models. They are pretty available and not very expensive.  :)

Oh dammit! I was just there yesterday! Well, they have one on clearance. A 3.5 litre one marked down to just £9.99. Im not sure if that is big enough but it looks about the same size I had in the USA.
Off to Argos!
Thanks!! x

I have a 4.5 litre crockpot and it seems to do ok for most things, but I do find that if I have a large piece of meat that I can't cook many veggies with it.
Insert wonderfully creative signature here …

It turned out very yummy. Both my daughter and husband loved it, and I didn't think it was too bad either. I put a bit of BBQ sauce in with the leftovers and left it on low for a couple hours and that was even better. Next time I am doing a BBQ roast, now that I know I can just stick the frozen thing in there without defrosting or anything. And I'll start it on earlier and leave it on medium for that extra tenderness.

Wintertime is crockpot time, isn't it?

OK, it's on my Christmas list.  I think I'll ask my MIL for one.
