Thank you  :-*  There's a Dooney outlet store not far from here.....promised myself when (NOT "if") I get a job, that's my pressie to myself  ;D

Great news about the paperwork- hang in there, I know it must be rough doing it for all of you- as a sidenote, all that work, effort, worry and it took me about 5 minutes to get through Immigration  ::)

Quick story...my friend said when she picked me up from the airport - "I bet people say you're like Supernanny"

Today, a woman begged me to keep talking because I sounded just like Supernanny and she loved the accent so much! It helped too- I was opening a bank account and got myself a free $25, then I was given a free cigarette lighter and a free drink :D

I returned something to Walmart too and when I explained a part was missing and is this okay, the girl said "NO" really loudly and I thought she was going to tell me off for trying to return it, but when I explained, she said "I am so sorry, I was just kidding, I wanted you to keep talking" LOL!

You can always use the "I'm so sorry, I'm not from here" excuse to get away with a lot, too.  I have a family friend who moved here from the UK in the early 70's and she still plays up the accent when she needs to!   ;D

Ha! I'm so glad things are going good for you. At least people are encouraging you to speak up, see there is something to be said for us "loud Americans" LOL we do listen, if we like what we hear  :D

When my husband went to take his Illinois Driver's License test, he nearly failed.

He was zipping around the parking lot doing 40 mph!  He deserved to fail, lol.   :)

Yet, the girl who was testing sat there and told him, "You really should fail because 40 mph is too fast for parking lots.  But I just love your accent.  Just slow down."

Luck sod.  I wasn't so impressed, considering I failed the my first attempt at the UK license because the anal retentive tester pointed out that my tyres touched (barely) a few miniroundabouts and I delayed for too long when there was a bus and I wasn't sure whether to pass it or not.   >:(
