Wait. Hold on just a second. Filene's is going out of business?!?! All Filene's?!?! This is huge news!!!

It is. They claim that the stores will be "nicer" but they will still all be Macy's instead of keeping the flavor and personality of the original stores. It stinks.

I wondered about them because the lovely big Lord & Taylor in Providence is now closed. It was always one of my very favourite places to shop -- the best dress selection anywhere. Tragic, absolutely tragic. Don't get me wrong -- I have nothing against Macy's and, truth be told, preferred it most of the time to Filene's. It's just that it's terrible not having any choice. Pretty soon the whole damned world will be owned by Disney and Coca Cola. Man, I hate Disney.

Okay, now I have absolutely NO reason to go to Chicago anymore.  Marshall Fields will be Macy's by the end of the year and now Lord & Taylor apparently will, too.  Grumble, grumble.
