Sugar-free
« on: October 23, 2005, 02:00:54 PM »
Is there anywhere you can buy sugar-free prepared foods in the UK? I don't mean Atkins/low-carb type food which still contains some sugar, but food that is entirely sugar free, which uses a sugar substitute in place of sugar. You used to be able to find whole aisles of sugar free foods in shops in the US.

So many prepared foods seem to have sugar, glucose syrup or golden syrup as the second or third ingredient. The worst offenders, ironically, seem to be the foods that are labeled as low-fat, and are advertised as being healthier and for people on diets.

The yoghurt, in particular, is abysmal.  Every flavored yoghurt is loaded with extra sugar.  I guess you just have to buy plain yogurt and add fruit or muesli yourself.

I've seen diabetic foods as well, especially jams and such. However, they are mad with the sweeteners here in the U.K. They put them in everything from spaghetti sauces, to crisps!! It totally grosses me out!! I HATE that sachrinney taste....
