Cola products taste flat
« on: October 18, 2003, 06:35:00 PM »
I am so disappointed  :( All the cola products I have tried taste flat. My favorite brand is coke but I have tried many and they all seem flat to me. I drink coke alot to wash down medications because it seems to make them go to work faster because of the carbination but I haven't found any that seemed to work. Can anyone recommend a coke that is strong and not flat?  Is there hope?  [smiley=disappointed.gif]

Other than maybe the cokes I get at the pub out of the fountain, I haven't really thought they seemed flat.  We usually get cans since they sit so nicely in the cup holders in the car and we're happy with them.  We also got some in proper glass bottles at Sainsbury's!  Sorry I'm not much help... good luck!

I have to agree with collington.

The only coke that I've had here that's been flat is the coke you get in the pub, sometime when we go to eat or the coke syrup which you get which is mixed - at tesco or at subway.

All the coke I've ever had which is in a can or bottle has always been bubbly.

Is it every coke you've had?  Where are you buying it?

I've always found bottled or canned Coke tastes different there, it's only fountain Cokes that seem closer to normal.  I don't know if I would describe them as "flat", but I don't like Coke as much there.

The day after my mom left, she phoned me to tell me that she arrived home safely and that she was enjoying a “real” Diet Pepsi – so she too noticed the difference. I guess it’s more crisp (crispier ;D ) – if you know what I mean :)

Coca-Cola in the USA is made with high-fructose corn syrup as the main sweetener.  Coca-Cola in the UK is made with sugar as the main sweetener.  The diet or light versions are also made with different sweeteners/mix of sweeteners in Europe than in the US.  This does make the UK/European versions taste different than the US versions.  I can only speak for Coca-Cola products, not any other brands.  Maybe these differences are what make them seem not the same to you.  I know the Diet Coke here is different than in the States - but I like both, so no worries for me.

Kitty, I don't get Coke much here unless I get a Diet Coke in a can and can get it as cold as I want.  Do you have problems getting it cold in restaurants or with ice?  I have gotten to where I ask for ice.  Do you or anyone else here have this problem much?  My fiance from here, asks for it for me too.  I usually get hot tea......seems easier...haha!  I have started buying Lipton's Mango or Peach flavored tea in bottles and I have my iced tea all the time and they are good!!!! haha!  I don't like to make up quarts of iced tea cause I am the only one that drinks it, as it is just me and my honey.

At first I thought that was strange with hardly any ice in your cokes, but it really does make sense. The more ice you add the more it waters down your drink and thats very yuckie to me :-/LOL.
Iam very much addicted to ice tea much to the horror of my hubby :o Hehehehehehehe.Id rather drink coffee then hot tea but then again Iam addicted to coffee too.I always drink instant in the UK though, and I find their coffee in restuarants etc... a bit strong for me

Hey Kitty,
Ice may water the Coke down if left too long, but I normally drink my Coke within reason.  ;D  I gotta have my ICE in my soft drinks!!! haha!  Unless they jsut came right out of my frig nice and COLD!!!

May I ask, how did you meet your hubby?

I like my coke with ice also but I am learning to live without ice at all. I don't use it in any of my drinks. I guess that is called adjusting. I have been drinking the diet cokes lately and though they don't take the same as in the US I can drink them and have stopped complaining about them not being the same. :)  My fiance is so tolerant of my complaints. Guess he loves me huh. lol  Nice to have someone to express my thoughts to. Thanks guys.
