Weetabix?
« on: October 26, 2005, 02:49:08 AM »
Are there any Weetabix fans out there? I ordered some last year from britishgoods.com, not really knowing what they were. I'd heard about them on the UK radio programme I listen to via iTunes (because Prince Charles visited the factory.) I honestly thought they were going to be cookies of some sort but was delighted to find that it was breakfast cereal (the ones I ordered were the mini Weetabix with fruit and nuts - very yummy.) Anyway, today my mom was shopping in the organic section of Kroger and ran across the organic type of Weetabix and I was quite pleased.

Sorry, I'm sure others aren't as interested in cereal as I am, just thought it was cool that I got Weetabix at Kroger!

Yeah, you can find Weetabix in many US grocery stores; I think it's pretty popular here too. :)

i like to pop a pair in a bowl, cover them with yoghurt & fresh fruit--yum!!

by the bye, i'm a total cereal-whore, too. every time i come back from the uk/ireland, my bags are stuffed with kellogg's start & country store muesli :P

The serving suggestions on the back of the box looked really good (like the fruit and yogurt thing you mentioned.) My mom liked the one where they put butter and jam on one of the biscuits but thought she'd like hers with cream cheese in place of the butter :)

Now I'm wanting some of those Weetabix minis again!

(I reckon I could survive on only hot or cold breakfast cereals, if need be.)

The only place I can find Weetabiz locally (other than World Market, and it is 3 times the cost!) is Target. Loooooove the Target. Ours is  a Super Target, and they keep the Weetabix right next to the Kashi stuff and Uncle Sam stuff.

We go through at least 1 box a week, usually two. My son Philip has had 2 weetabix biscuits every morning for the last 10 - 12 months, and my husband does the same. I like some occasionally as well, but not as much as my husband and son. I think they'd shrivel up and die without it.

My husband eats 2 Weetabix with a banana & milk virtually every day for breakfast, except for the odd weekend day here & there when he might have porridge or a bacon butty.

As for me -- I always think the same thing (of Weetabix) as I did of shredded wheat in the USA...sawdust! :P

glad you posted your comment Carolyn... I was starting to think I was the only one who disliked Weetabix  :P

It is the smell. It is quite popular in Kenya B&Bs and I never developed a taste for it. I had a friend come out to visit me and a I introduced him to the stuff and told him how much I disliked it. A year later or so he sent me a coupon clipping from the US introducing Weetabix with the cheesy line about being Britian's favorite breakfast cereal. I had a giggle about that because I knew that marketing would draw a few more unlikely customers.

I did notice with the regular sized biscuits that they REALLY soak up the milk. But, it didn't really bother me. I just sprinkled on some nutrisweet (I know, that makes some of you guys heave, but I like it!) The banana would be a nice addition though, Carolyn.

That's why I don't like Weetabix. It becomes too soggy for me. But Jon eats LOADS of it. It's the only cereal he eats. He prefers the organic kind.

My bruddah-in-law, Matt, about lives on his Weetabix; it is his number one food source.

I don't really care for it myself.  Don't hate it...but, I wouldn't care if I never had it again either.

The organic kind is what my mother found for me at Kroger. I guess it was in with the other bland, organic cereals :)

(she was actually looking for vegan margerine so I could make some treats for friends and happened to run across the Weetabix for me.)

The soaky, mushiness is what makes it a great baby food, but David eats it so quickly it never gets muchy. I like mine with banana as well and less milk, I forgot about that carolyn! :D

I was about to make some wise-crack about, "Oh, he must be a single guy then."  But, I realized that I have no room to talk  :-X Having cereal as my number one food source sounds good to me. Granted, I am a single girl but I don't see that martial status would affect my love of cereal :)
