Fiance visa entry - - -one way ticket acceptable?
« on: October 28, 2005, 11:43:47 AM »
Hi everyone,  :)
We plan to go to the States in February and return with a fiance visa for myself and a visa for my son. Will one way plane tickets be acceptable at immigration do you think? We will be carrying a letter from the local priest that shows our planned wedding date.
Thanks
Melissa and David

You're coming in on a settlement visa so they expect you're going to settle!  One-way tickets are fine.

But don't be surprised if a return ticket isn't cheaper.  ;)

oh yeah definitely! I've been pricing fares and a r/t for me runs about $600 and a o/w is about $1100.

One ways are generally  more or less 3/4th the cost of a r/t ticket. So even if you don't plan using the return you can save lots!!!

Some times you can get a good deal depending on time of year, age, student statusm which departing airport, etc. so hit helps to shop around.

good luck!  ;D

I can't say whether buying round trip or one way is better, in fact I have a similar issue i posted about this afternoon... but I do know why one way is more expensive, because I asked about it once. It makes sense...in business logic, at least.
Basically, One way costs more because the airline looks at it as lost business. You are only going in one direction, and not flying back with them, so they charge you more for not flying with them again. They give you a discount for flying round trip because you are giving them your business twice, and you might make another flight out again later.
So in a nutshell, one way costs more as a punishment for being a customer once, not twice. Although I doubt they would refer to it as punishment.  :P
