OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT
« on: November 01, 2005, 01:07:09 PM »
If a friend in the UK has offer my partner a job will this pass ok as the offer of employment ? or are they going to find it fun a friend offering ?
This is a genuine employment offer he has his own building business, which my partner is qualified to do.
Also does anyone have a sample letter for an offer of employment

If it is a genuine job offer which fits the criteria, and has been advertised, then it doesn't matter if the offer is from a friend or not.

An offer letter is not needed for the work pemrit application, only at a later stage when entry clearance is being applied for.

My father-in-law wrote an offer letter for me that I presented with my application and it didn't seem to be a problem.

The letter doesn't need to be long. Just state the title of the position, the approximate start date, and the salary. That should do fine.

My misunderstanding...I thought this was for a work permit application!

Ignore everything I have said...among_the_stars  is spot on.

Sorry!

I wasn't asked for an offer letter for my WP application.  Just my passport, picture, and approval for the WP letter from the HO.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

No.  What you said was 100% correct, spot on-the-money.  But applicable only to the awkward consulates.  There's a spate of refusals where the ECO has challenged the authenticity of a job offer letter, and then leveraged that into a frontal challenge on the applicant's credibility.  So it's better to have the whole ball of wax supporting the job offer letter.  But again, the USA is a fast-track country and this precaution would not apply there.

I didn't realise that.  Thanks.

I think I had better stop posting now though...I am so tired i am beginning to confuse myself!

I would have thought a written contract between your friend who owns the business and your partner stating his employment status, job role, salary, etc would be enough to warrant it an offer of employment.

As you do not need this for a UK work permit, is your main concern that the Offer of Employment is genuine?  That your friend will screw over your partner through an illegitimate employment offer?  Or are you asking this for some other reason?

Hi Matt,
I was just asking as we are apply for un-married partner visa and this is a genuine job offer but I was asking if Immigration would find it funny being it is a friend.

I used to write offer letters at my job (I was an HR Administrator) and they really are quite simple. You can have him write one to you or one specifically for the consulate. An expample could be:
___________

To Whom It May Concern:

This is to certify that Jane Doe has been offered full time emplyment with this company as an Administrative Assistant.

The starting salary will be £15,000 / annum and it will be a full time position. The approximate start date is December 6th, 2005.

Sincerely,
_____________

It really can be that simple. It just needs to be on company letterhead, of course. It might also help to provide them with a reference letter from a previous employer and a copy of your resume to back up the offer and to show that you are employable.
