"Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen! I was teaching my students about the 2005 Paris riots today and it was in a YouTube clip of the riots.

A strange medley of Happiness is a Warm Gun by the Beatles and Going to California by Led Zeppelin. It sounds alright in my head, anyway!  :P I miss the oldies radio stations in the states.

There's not much in the way of true oldies stations anymore. I know that because of the passage of time, what is considered oldies changes, but no radio station around me (Jacksonville, FL) plays any Elvis, pre-1966 Beatles, Motown, and lots more anymore. We have a classic rock station, but I'm sorry, Foreigner is NOT classic rock (or even good music, IMHO). What really annoys me is that they play the same songs that the light station and the 80's/90's station do!!!! I would fall over if I heard Happiness is a Warm Gun on the radio. I guess the only place to find diversity in radio is on satellite.

/end rant  :P

lol, loveaturtle. You are right, but there was one station in Dallas called KLUV that played all the Motown greats, plus early Beatles, among other things. But yeah, the classic rock station started playing U2 and Guns and Roses for crying out loud!

I have Rule the World by Take That stuck in my head thanks to Masterchef last night.  ::)

How is that any different than something like Nick at Nite airing shows like Full House and Fresh Prince of Bel Air?  The category of "classic rock" doesn't really have a set time frame (which does suck because GnR and U2 are not what most people over 25 would consider "classic rock"), just as "classic TV" doesn't really have a set time frame.  I remember 15 years ago when "classic rock" stopped with bands that were headliners in the mid-70s (their albums from the 80s were included but newer groups weren't included).

Logically, it isn't. Emotionally, well...grrr! >:( Sorry, there's just something strange about Full House being dropped into the same slot that aired Dragnet ten years ago.

What really annoys me is, like I said before, the lack of diversity on the radio. As time passes, it seems like there should be more opportunities for different formats on radio. So The Beatles haven't played on Top 40 stations in years...now they can be played on oldies stations. But that's not what happens. There's no distinct oldies station. The songs have disappeared from the air, because the stations want to capture as many listeners as possible, so they overlap their song rotations. This is why the same Nickelback song is played on the alternative station, light station, and adult contemporary station. Bah! I can't even tell the difference between stations anymore. I would like to see very distinct stations that really delve into all the bands that make up the genre.

There's a difference?!?!? What a novel idea: different radio stations for different genres!  Amazing!  It'll make a fortune!

LOL!  :) Are you sure you don't want to hear Nickelback on every station? (It's my own version of hell!  >:D)

I think it's the Boomtown Rats (Bob Geldof).
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.

Yeah, the lead singer sounds like Elvis Costello, methinks.

Now it's Sweet Caroline.  :-\\\\
