Ok... I'm sure you've seen Frances?
I would also definitely add "Jude" to your list.  Holy cow, did I want to stick a fork in my eye after that one. ;)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116722/

I saw Frances but read the book first. Yeow.  Poor, poor woman.  Nirvana did a bit of a tribute to her in  Frances Farmer Will Have her Revenge on Seattle.  Is Jude the movie with Christopher Eccleston? That was pretty grim as well.

Some of Mike Leigh's films are rather difficult to watch. Meantim, with a very young Tim Roth, is notable in it's oppressiveness.

Watched Leigh's All or Nothing a couple of nights ago. Tonight, though, I'm digging into The Exorcism of Emily Rose I LOVE a good horror movie!!

Speaking of . . . anyone else waiting eagerly for Hostel this Friday??

Yeap!  And Ms Winslet.
Good acting; grim film.

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

Pedro Almodovar’s Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! -- which, interestingly enough, was one of the first two films to get the NC-17 rating (the other one being Henry & June)...oddly enough, the violence in the film is mild compared to many violent films that have been rated less severely and the sex scene...well here an online reviewer's spot-on assessment:

In retrospect, the film does not deserve the rating for a brief scene featuring a diving toy in a bathtub and a sex scene between the two stars. What must have twigged the censors was not necessarily the explicit nature of this scene but rather the energetic "enjoyment" of the characters in contraposition to the usual treatment in Hollywood films in which the participants barely move during langurous tracking shots.  (http://www.digitallyobsessed.com/showreview.php3?ID=909)

The sex scene is essentially a waist up affair -- no nether region shots or any of that, but it is an exuberant scene.

The film is also considered Antonio Banderas' "breakthrough" movie, taking him from a player in mostly foreign films on to his major Hollywood career.  Good interview on the DVD in 'Special Features' between Banderas and Almodovar.

Carolyn, I saw Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! years ago and thought it a bit strange, the characters really quirky, but liked it.

Kuyperama--I love your Showdown at the Gates of Mordor!!!  LOLOL!!!

The last DVD we watched was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which we had missed seeing in the theatre.  Thought it was great!

I'm changing it as it's starting to annoy even me now though!

Best. Show. Ever.  I even got a little misty eyed at the end of the last episode.  Now I'm just holding out for the box set of all three seasons.
