Aillidh hated swaddled.  She even hated the Moses basket.  She also found a way to pull of scratch mitts.  She quieted much faster after we moved her into her cot bed at 5 days old.  We bought one of those 'GroBag' things and it worked a treat.

I forgot about wind!  Too right, Alicia.  Maybe give her some Infacol before she has her bottle and see if that helps her any.  If that doesn't work and she has REALLY bad wind, there's some stuff called Colief, but it's £9.99 for a wee tube so if you can get it on prescription all the better.

Maybe she has a touch of colic?  If so, try putting two phone books under two of the cot legs to raise it up a bit.

Carly, do you have any receiving blankets?
The hospital gave us one and I picked one up at Sainsburys as well. When shes fussy, she won't sleep without it. No other blanket works.

I dont think shes colic, she doesn't cry enough to be colic. Usually a cuddle will help if shes not hungry or has a dirty nappy. I'm pretty sure its wind because when she cries she puts her legs to her chest. Usually after she poos or has a good burp shes better.

She finds a way to pull off those scratch mitts as well, she has long finger nails so her face is usually scratched,so last night we put socks on her hands..It looked so cute we took this picture:

But she once again found a way to kick em off her feet and her hands, lol

Oh, she is a wee dote!  I LOVE how they frog their legs and sleep w/their hands up by their heads when they're newborn like that.

Alicia is right, it's totally trial and error.  And then once you find 'the solution', they change and you're right back where you started.  They keep you on your toes!

Have you got a swing?  That's another thing that worked for us.

Sounds like wind. For the heartbeat, try sticking in a small clock (like a travel clock) in with her. Works for puppies, kittens and babies and less hassle than trying to record your own heartbeat, and you probably already have one in the house.

But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.
