Ahh, generally the problem with too many child boards is it just fragments all the posts and decreases overall activity. I see it a lot in "new" forums, they attempt to copy the segmented style of larger boards and end up with lots of dead child boards which actually decreases overall posting as people don't browse through boards that they have "no interest" in but would read random threads that come up generally and maybe post in them.
Unless a topic needs restricted access or is particularly controversial it's usually better to have as few child boards or sections as possible, the exception to that (and of course what UKY does very well) are areas which have a really high volume of posts, which looking through posting history pets doesn't seem to (imo of course).
