It really depends on what your family tradition is.  I'd talk to your mom and see what she thinks, but I'm pretty sure that it's perfectly acceptable to use it as a middle name.  I'm named for my dad's mom, Frieda.  They took the F, and made it Francine as well as my middle name.  Plus, I don't see why it would have to be immediate family unless it's important to someone or if they passed away recently and you want to honor them.  But... I wasn't raised super religious so I could be talking heathen talk here.

Another thought... if you're going to have a naming ceremony for the baby, you can always go the family route there.

Yeah, not too religious here either!  And Rich is an Atheist!  Naming ceremony (If a girl) would have to be done in the US I think.

Firstly, congratulations Stacey!  Hope you are feeling OK.

With my dd, we had a list of girls names that we liked, but couldn't agree on any boys names.  When she was born, we both just knew that she was a Sophia right away.  With my ds, again we had a list of girls names and STILL (after 2 years) couldn't agree on any boys names.  I thought I was having another girl, so I didn't worry too much. When he was born we started going through names again, but we still couldn't agree.  I came up with Jonah and wouldn't budge.  I knew that would be his name, but it took another week to convince Keith.  We both love the name now, and can't imagine him being called anything else.

Thank you Kathleen!  I LOVE your kids names!  I think I told you at the time what a huge fan of Jonah I am.

I think it's the Boys names I'm having the most trouble with.  I always saw myself with girls, but I am getting a boy feeling ;D  That is where we are stuck.

(bet you cannot GUESS where I got that from)

Though seriously, I've always liked:  Paul, Mark, Phillip, Christopher, Jeff, Nicholas... ummm...
perhaps fairly common, but good, solid names.  To me anyway.

I always think you need to try names out..... Call them out randomly around the house to see how it sounds ;)

I've always said that if they can walk into a board room, be introduced with their full name, and command respect, then you are safe.  Any giggles or snickers would just blow the name off the list.

We have so far talked about Mary Kathryne and Michael James.  Saint's names for the first names (St. Mary Magdalen and St. Michael the Archangel), and for the middle names I just love Kathryne, and James is Simon's Dad's name.

Ok, my family is very original when it comes to names:

My great-great-great-great grandmother's name: Mary Jane
My great-great-great-grandmother was named Mary Jane (her sister was Susan Charlotte)
My great-great-grandmonthers name was: Mary Jane
My great-grandmother's name was: Mary Jane
My grandmothers name: Mary Jane
My mom's name: Mary Jane

My cousins/aunts/etc? Mary Catherine, Mary Elizabeth, Jane Mary (creative, eh??), Susan Charlotte, Charlotte Jane, Mary Susan, etc....

Gotta love good ol' southern tradition.

Mary Kathryne is one of the names I've played around with. Mary would be after my sis and paternal grandmother. It might have to get relegated to a middle name because we named one of our cats Mary! Kathryne (and you spell it the same as I do. :)) is just because I've always liked it.

I used to wish my dad had been more creative when he chose my name: Melissa Kay. I've never really liked my middle name and used to wish it was Kathryne.[/color]
