Pickles
« on: November 16, 2005, 06:45:07 PM »
My husband and I make our own pickles each year.  Come spring, will we be able to find small pickling cucumbers in the stores?  All I've seen since we've moved here are the long English cucumbers, but didn't know if the selection changed in the spring.

I've never seen anything other than normal long cucumbers.  :-\\\\

You might try asking the produce manager at your local store if small pickling cucumbers will either be available or if you could special order them.
If you don't know where you're going, it doesn't matter what road you take.

A local farmer's market will be a better place to look.  I've found them there in the past (the one in Edinburgh).

I figured that the farmer's market would be a good place to check in the spring.  That's where I always used to get my pickling cucumbers in the U.S.  Frances, that's nice to know that you've seen them at the farmer's market in Edinburgh!

Unfortunately not, although that would be great!

The farmer's market here is now held weekly, on Saturdays from 9-2.30 (go early for best choice!), in Castle Terrance just up from the Grassmarket.

Mmmm.  Pickles.  :D
