Back Fat

How do you get rid of back fat?

I am in good shape, fairly slim, yet I have these blobs of fat on the sides of my lower back, below my waist. Does anybody know a way to get rid of this?

No kids, but age is beginning to take its toll. I know that sounds so silly at 36, but I am beginning to feel those little aches that I have heard my parents complain about for years. Also, I used to be so good at drinking, and now if I have a couple of glasses of wine, I wake up after the next morning feeling horrible. Though, truly, I can't complain. Other than back fat and being a light weight, being a 36 year old woman rocks!

I think fat is just distributed on some women differently than on others.  I know some girls who have really teensy waists and then larger butts/hips.  Me on the other hand, I might as well be a rectangle.  Well I guess I'm not that bad but I definitely have the back fat/intertube thing goin on around me.  Unless I lost about 20 pounds right now, I don't think it would go away.  Unfortunately for me, it's the LAST place I lose fat from it seems....  :-\\\\

Don't feel bad, I have it in my left wrist and elbow and get a flare up now and then in my right shoulder! This is a result of lifting kids that are too heavy to be lifted for 9 years.  The sad part is that I love to do yoga and the arthritis is effecting some of the postures I used to be able to do very easily.

The part of 36 that rocks for me is that I don't feel that competiton you tend to feel as a woman in your 20s. I guess I just don't care what people think as much anymore. ...except for what they think of my back fat  ;)

i've found they go away by doing lateral pull downs which target the upper outer portion of your back.

that's if you have a gym nearby!

I've been researching diets/exersize today, and I thought these links might help:

and the first place is always my boobs!  But it takes for ever to get rid of the saddlebags on my thighs.  I swear god played a nasty trick on women...

A good exercise for strenghening your lower back without going to the gym are Supermans.  Lie face down on the floor and extend your arms.  Slowly lift your arms and legs at the same time and hold for 10 seconds, a la superman flying.  Repeat 10 times.

Probably the cold wet weather, believe it or not, I used to have these 'arthritis-stiffness' problems back home when it got cold. It was usually my knees, and I would tie a sock around them, soaked with deep heating rub, and that helped. Funny though, I don't have these problems here, but, when I had the probs back home, I was working on my feet for about 10 hours a day!!

I don't think you can control the way your body stores fat.  You can see my pelvic bone and some of my ribs, and yet I have cellulite on my bum and thighs and I wear a D cup.  The only way to get rid of the bum and thigh fat would be to starve myself. I don't need to be any thinner.

Quite a bit of it can be remedied by the following:

Upper and Lower back strenghtening
Ab and hip strenghtening
Posture

Believe it of not, the better posture you have, the better your back, neck and ab muscels will be.  It is hard to do, but try to force yourself to sit/stand/walk straight.  It helps.  I've been working on my posture for a few month, and can honestly notice a difference in my belly buldge and "love handles".

Target weight work (such as lat pull-downs, rib cage pullovers, single arm lat rows, etc) can change the shape of the muscle under the fat, but won't affect the fat. You have to burn that off the same way you burn any fat off. Bad news, huh? Everyone has an area of body fat that is the last to go. For me it's been my very upper arms and the belly area. The upper arms are slowly going, but it'll be another half stone or more before the belly is gone, I fear. Don't give up, though!
