I looked at that 'Lift' in the shop today... unfortunately, the green lid one is 'reduced sweetness', not sugar free... and the 1st item on the ingredient list is dextrose, with dried glucose syrup further down the list.
Anyway, it was worth a look, so im grateful for the suggestion... but think if i want to surprise my pal, i will have to look to the USA for the powdered diet Lipton flavoured teas...

I'll get some when I go back to the states.  They had sugar-free decaf too!  I love it!!!

My mom sent me some powdered tubbs of Arizon Peach & Green tea with Splenda.  I think I finished four tubs (8 quarts) in about 3-4 days!!!
Now I'm craving iced tea again... especially with this weather.

I just brewed up some PG Tips and iced it down.  It tastes okay... but I want my peachy tea!!!

Whittard has some nice diet powdered teas, but I can't bring myself to spend 5 pounds on one container!!!

Whittard's does several flavours of instant tea.  The fruity black tea based ones have recently reduced the sugar content by half and added splenda. Loads of different flavours in those!  There are 4 green tea based ones that have no sugar but sweetened with splenda (Strawberry/Blueberry, Summer Fruits, mandarin orange/pomegranate, white cranberry and apple).  They are £5 a tub or 3 for £12.

Oh and for those of you who like the Arizona teas, select Whittard stores sell them in a ready to drink format!  Not sure of price though.

Actually, there is only aspartame in the non green tea ones.  The artifical sweetener they use in the green tea ones is Splenda which a lot of diabetics use instead of sugar.    Splenda actually comes from sugar itself.  Instead of posting all the information here about Splenda I will post the links.  Splenda is more natural.  The EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) confirms the safety or aspartame. There is a slight difference between the two.

As for the green teas, they have natural flavours in them.

But I can understand the worries of some people who are trying to very cautious.  (Heck, I would much rather drink these teas than Coke! Coke is soooooooo much worse for the body)

I've noticed that a lot of products here tend to have less sugar, but also artificial sweeteners.
I don't remember seeing that in products in the US.  But then again I might not have paid any attention.

I just bought a jar of the reduced sweetness Tesco brand instant tea.  It has sugar in it.  The sweeter kind has sugar + saccharine.  Both have the same calories.

I didn't like it.  I thought it tasted like watery tea & lemsip.  :P

Splenda is more natural.

There's nothing 'natural' about Splenda.

I can taste artificial sweetners in things, and to me at least, they ALL make food products taste despicable.

I understand diabetics need to be cautious, but as MeShell's post pointed out, you find a lot of products here that contain sugar AND artificial sweetners.  No, thanks!  I just despise the taste.

I was unable to find tonic water here that didn't contain those dire, chemically, rank artificial sweetners.

Finally found some in a healthfood shop.

I do have to say I don't like the tast of artifical sweeteners either but Spenda is dirived from sugar itself.  I won't drink the instant green teas from whittards as they have that nasty after taste from splenda.  But the other ones I don't taste it all which was quite surprising! I even made some cookies once using splenda and I couldn't stand them as I could taste that horrible taste you mentioned. It's aspartame that is fartherst from being natural

I can taste ALL artificial sweetners.  And they all taste vile to me.

I'm an everything in moderation eater, however, so I never see sugar or fat as the bad guys - they're just like everything else, enjoy in moderation.

I love to bake, but you won't catch me ever using artificial sweetner in my baked goods, even for my diabetic in-laws.  For them, I have a growing reperatoire of recipes that use fruit and freshly squeezed fruit juice to sweeten.

Strangely enough, since FIL has been on injectible insulin, he finds that artificial sweetners do strange things to his blood sugar levels and no avoids them altogether.  He used to drink diet drinks, but now I got him turned to plain soda water w/crushed fruit - leave it to sit abit and enjoy!

My mom has found that the diet or non-sugared products are worse/just as bad for her diabetes as the sugared variety. She can't rely on it being diet to mean that it won't wreck havoc with her system. She also is really into flavored soda water now.

As for tea, can I just say the green tea sun tea I made the other day has turned out so good, with a little bit of honey it is just like my favorite Arizona iced tea, only better because I made it and there's loads of it.  ;D

No, it came out fine, I think - though I might go with less bags tomorrow, to see what difference it makes. I liked the batch, anyway :)
