This is why I stopped drinking sun tea years ago!  I read this same article about 10 years ago in a newspaper.  We then figured out what caused my friend to become ill!

I'm with QG - I read those articles and thought, well, I've made it this far. Knock on wood.  ;)

Oh, dear!  I've been making up huge jugs of sun tea for years and then letting them sit on a work top and drinking off them b/c the jug never fit in my fridge. :o

So far, so good.  But then again, I'm the type who's eaten off street vendors all over the world.

I've also probably pickled myself.  ;)

Name me anything that is totally safe....people get sick all the time from drinking milk, juice, soda, even water.  Not to mention the risk of choking on or aspirating other food and drink...  Doesn't mean I'm going to give up eating and drinking any time soon!
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

now wait a minute, looking further down this post it seems that some people mentioned they cared about what was actually IN their food and drink....

My point (perhaps not well worded) was that nearly anything, under the right conditions, can prove hazardous to your health.  Even plain water.  Life is a calculated risk.  If you like sun tea, and you're comfortable w/whatever risk might be associated with it, then go for it.  If you think it's too much of a risk, then don't drink it.  Whatever floats your boat...

My MIL didn't notice it so much, as she never had a sweet tooth so she just stuck to her usual hot tea w/no sugar.

But FIL has a massive sweet tooth and so was eating the artificial sweetners to appease that.

He really started to notice how they set his blood sugar off, however, once he had to go on injectible insulin.

Poor soul!

I've got a very nice sugar free banana cake to try for him tonight w/a cream cheese frosting - you whizz fruit spread in it.

And he now regularly quaffs water w/crushed fruit and mint leaves.  It's really nice, especially in this weather.  So is sparkling water w/cucumber and lime slices. MMMmmm.
