Hotel Recommendation for Visitors to london
« on: November 21, 2005, 04:43:31 PM »
(Not sure if this is the right forum)-

Anyway, my parents are coming to visit me in January, so I was wondering if anyone had any hotel recommendations for the area around Marble Arch.  (I am just choosing that area as I want them to be convienient to touristy stuff but close enough to me (I live right by Edgware road station)).

I was hoping for no more than £80 a night, preferably less.

The Marriott in Marble Arch is nice.  It's on Edgeware Road and close to Marble Arch station.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

I've stayed at the Mayfair Holiday inn (Berkeley St/Piccadilly)... a stonesthrow from The Ritz and Piccadilly, Bond Street. It wasn't anything too impressive given the posh area but served its purpose. We paid $200 for 4 people on NYE. You may be able to do better after the holidays. It was perfect and very accessible to sites and Tube.

The Thistle Marble Arch is great.

I've had several friends and family stay there. If you look around on sites like Londontown or lastminute you can get some really good deals for that hotel and others in the area.

Also the Paddington Hilton is nice. Not far from either area, but it does have the bonus for being very well conected for transport. Buses every couple of minutes , the tube, and trains if they want to go to the west on a day trip. You can get several buses to Marble Arch, and it only takes about 10 minutes even in trafic in rush hour.

When I was looking for a flat, I stayed in the Marriot at Grosvenor Square, and it was very comfortable, and right by Hyde Park.

I stayed on a Visa card promotion, plus my mother's Marriot points, but I think is normally 260 pounds a night (that may be very wrong due to my extremely poor memory!). I loved it, and highly reccomend it.

Let's take our wigs off in the shopi aisle and fight it out.
