The Ring Test
« on: November 24, 2005, 06:48:13 PM »
Did this 'gender predictor' test work for anyone here?  Of course, everyone at work is hedging bets about the baby's gender.  Went for a growth scan yesterday, but they wouldn't get anywhere NEAR baby's business section, if you know what I mean. ;)  They just showed us its large feet, twee face, wee fisties, etc.

Aw.  It's at least 6.5lbs and spot on 37 weeks (and showing no sign of wanting to get here).

Anyhow, one of the tutors did this ring test w/my wedding ring.  It swung back and forth in a line.

What's that supposed to mean?

I read that if the ring goes, round and round it is a boy.  I guess back in forth is a girl.  The Chinese predictor has gotten it right all three times.  Boys!

it was accurate for me heres some more sex predication tests that i've used http://www.pregnancy-info.net/wives_tales_and_myths.html
heres what it said about the ring test:
Hold a pendant over your hand. If the necklace swings back and forth, you're having a boy. If it is more of a circular motion, then it's a girl. This can also be done by suspending a ring on a string above your belly

I think these are all rubbish, b/c this other site says round and round is a girl and back and forth is a boy.

The Chinese calendar was right for me w/Aillidh, but this time it says it's a boy.

I don't care, there are pluses and minuses either way and as long as it's healthy I'm pleased b/c then I don't have to be pregnant again.   :D

It'd be an extra bonus to be able to have a big ol' meal over the holidays, too!

I just read the opposite on another website.

Yeah, this is what I heard as well.  Back and forth is a boy, circular is a girl.

I'd would think big feet could also mean a boy as well!   ;D

That's why these things are all rubbish.

It does have big feet, though, even the midwives commented on it yesterday.  It's not got a really fast heartbeat, only 120-130 bpm  :o, but no one seemed to think this was unhealthy.  It sort of frightens me, b/c Aillidh's heart was like a little jack rabbit.

It is running out of room.

Let's hope it gets sick of being cramped and decides to come out. :D

Courtney has very huge feet, everyone makes comments about it ,shes like a rabbit lol.
The heartrate is fine! They say anything above 150 is a girl and below that is a male. 120-130 is normal, its when it gets down below 100 which is unhealthy. Also what I learned is depending on when you have the heart rate monitored it can be low, like in the mornings when you first get up and aren't active.

by the way- I'm pretty sure you're gonna have a girl ;)

Maybe you're having a bunny rabbit!

I'm sure it's all fine, Leigh!  It won't be long now 'til it's out and in your arms, too!

There's a 50/50 chance.  I think it's impossible to predict myself, though, honestly.  There's really no way to tell besides a scan (and even those get it wrong), amnio, CVS or childbirth.  I'm getting kind of sick of it at work.  It's like, we'll know when it's born, leave it already!  Everyday, these silly folks come up w/more 'predictions'.

I had 'feelings' last time, and they were ALL wrong.  This time, I have none.

The heartrate was very steady, never faltered below 122 during the entire trace.  Its cord is not around its neck at all, and it's too late for it to turn, apparently.

I cannot WAIT to get this weight off me, though.  My knee joint is full of metal and the other has very little cartilage.  The only thing that's different between this pregnancy and the last is that this bump is ALL in front.  I'd been referred for growth scan b/c the midwife thought the bump was measuring small, but it's just 'all baby'.  Last time, I was so pregnant all over.  And I thought that was bad.  But man, this time, my back aches big style!  Blimey!

And anaemia.  I didn't get that last time.

Expat, you work right?  I think you are doing so well with this pregnancy.

I've heard back and forth boy round and round girl.  Rich's Nana used a needle and thread to do the same thing.  It went back and forth.  So now I'm convinced it's a boy, but I plan to find out anyway.

I'm still there.  I'm scheduled to go to 39 weeks + 1 day.  Still have another report for my other job due on Monday, too, so I took off till Tuesday.  Dunno if I'll last past next week, though, but will try.  The anaemia makes me really tired.  I've been given some nasty pink liquid to take for it, b/c the regular iron pills made me sick.

The tutors were using my wedding ring w/my badge holder for a 'string'.

I'm sure that he/she is doing fine - if the midwives aren't worried, you should try not to (I know it's hard though).

With my son I was absolutely convinced he was a girl the entire pregnancy.  Then, about two hours before he was born I looked at my husband and said "It's a boy."  I was absolutely sure at that moment.  It was sort of weird, to be honest.  I don't know if it was a moment of clarity or a reaction to the epidural... but I was right! :)

They say anything above 150 is a girl and below that is a male.

My son stayed steady at 145-150 during the whole pregnancy... including labor and birth.  It was like the entire birthing process didn't phase him one bit.  Wish I could say the same for me!
