Sleeping Through The Night
« on: November 28, 2005, 09:15:36 PM »
I am soooooo happy.  Alex is now 8 weeks old and for the last week in a half he has been sleeping until 6 and 7.  It's wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!  Just thought I'd share. :) :) :) :) :) :)
The day I met my son is the day I became me.  I thank him for that.

Our daughter did that.  And it's lasted ever since.   :D  She's a brilliant sleeper and even at 2.5, she wakes and peacefully plays in her room for a long while before coming out to greet us.  She always wakes in a brilliant mood and when you come in she gives you a big grin and a greeting.

Dunno if we'll get so lucky w/this one.  Our daughter was bottlefed from the get go.

I can't wait for that! Courtney is 5 weeks and yesterday she actually slept 3-5 hours without waking up. I'm looking forward to her sleeping throughout the whole night :P

Excellent!  Our daughter has always been a good sleeper and so I'm crossing my fingers that the next one will be so easy.  I have a friend whose 2 year old still wakes up at 5am!   :o

Does she get up w/him/her?  My niece did that and was trained very early to amuse herself in her room until at least 6AM.  By age 4, she'd pour her milk into the bowl of cereal Mom and Dad left out, go into the living room, switch on the TV, and make herself comfie.

Yes, which I think is my friend's problem.  Ellen tried waking up at 5am a few times and we just told her that it was still nighttime and she needed to go back to bed.  She got the picture pretty quickly that we weren't going to take her out of the crib!

Yep, that's what they did to Emily (my niece).  Also, they never used a baby monitor once she was in her own room at 1 year old.  As my mom said, 'They'll be loud enough for you to hear them if it's really important.'  One of my midwife pals thinks a lot of children don't learn to settle themselves well b/c of increased use of baby monitors.

I can understand this viewpoint.  If you don't have a moniter (especially with older babies/toddlers) you don't respond as quickly to cries and noises, and you give them more of a chance to settle down by themselves.

The houses are so small here I never saw the point of baby monitors. We had one for our daughter and I just never used it, cause I could hear everything anyway.

that's true.  Our flat is all on one level and the bedrooms are all next to each other.  I can hear Aillidh when she wakes up.

I'm jealous!  My son will be 9 weeks tomorrow and he has 1 solid block of 3-4 hours and then wakes every 1-2 hours for the rest of the night.  Send some of those sleep vibes his way please!
