To flatmate, or not to flatmate.. that is the question
« on: November 29, 2005, 12:54:09 AM »
Have you ever done a flatshare?
Have you ever done a flatshare with a significant other?
How did you meet your flatmate?
Did you use a website?

My wife and I are moving soon (January) to London and are currently looking for somewhere to live.  We are considering doing a flatshare because of  money.   We really want to travel as much as possible and that was a deciding factor on moving, the opportunities to use London as a travel base are great.  So, what do you think?  Is it something we should consider?

Joshua, I just got a pm from your wife. I'll reply with some info and discuss the flatmate issue. See you on the other side!  ;D

I would love to have the information as well, Paula, as I'm moving to the UK in spring, although on my own.

Have you ever done a flatshare?
Yup!  I've done flatshares most of my adult life!  I just enjoy living with others more often than not & love having the extra cash (particularly as I've always lived in expensive cities.  Has it always been perfect?  No.  Last year was not a fun one with my flatmate but it's mainly cause I didn't know her beforehand and didn't even get to meet her beforehand...it was a unique situation.  But other than that I've had great luck!

Have you ever done a flatshare with a significant other?
No...but my current flatmate's boyfriend may be coming over to London this spring so I'll be flatmating with a couple.  I don't think it'd be a problem at all as long as you communicate amongst yourselves & set up ground rules for living.

How did you meet your flatmate?
A few times I've used ads, once through other people and a few times I've moved in with workmates.

Did you use a website?
Not for here (London) but I did when I moved to Boston.  It worked out brilliantly...we met, got along great & I moved in for 2 years.  She's still a friend now!
