Hi from New Member
« on: November 02, 2003, 12:44:59 PM »
Hi:  I am new to this forum.  I live in Roanoke, Virginia but am originially from Washington, DC.  My mother and grandparents were from Bedfordshire before coming to the U.S.  I am a writer - formerly a tech writer, now moving into other genres.
I look forward to meeting everyone and hearing their stories.

Kathryn

Hi there!

So what brings you to our happy little place?  How long have you lived in Roanoake-I've always wanted to go there! What new genres are you working in?

Welcome!

Hi Kathryn!  I am actually typing this a bit south of you at my parents place in between Danville and Martinsville.   :) I just wanted to add my welcome to SAF's and I hope that you find us to be the nice group that we are.  Are you thinking of moving to the UK sometime?

Best wishes!

Thanks to all of you for the warm welcome!  I wanted to join this forum because I have dreamed of relocating to the UK for a long time and have really started to get serious about it at this point.  My mother and my grandparents were from England (Bedfordshire) and so all my life I heard and read about the country.  When I finally got to travel there, it was even better than it had been described to me and I wanted to stay!  I loved so many places I visited that I would find it hard to pick a favorite - Devon and Cornwall were wonderful and I also loved Salisbury, Wiltshire, Oxford, and so many others.  I've been wanting to write a book set in England so that I could have an excuse to visit and do research.  Travel is always a challenge for me because I'm handicapped so I have limits on what I can do but I refuse to give up my dream of returning.  Thanks so much for welcoming me!

Hi Kathryn. My brother lives in Roanoke and my sister drove down there from the DC area to join him for Thanksgiving. And I live near Salisbury, and, LOL, well, it just seems like such a small world is why I'm rambling trivia.

Actually, I think the market is ripe for books about traveling in Europe for the handicapped/handicapable(?). Go for it!

Hi Kathryn, my husband and I hope to get to the UK as well seeing as both of our parents were from there,( my mother from Scotland, my father from Wales). My husbands' father from England so we as well have great memories and wonderful stories of the UK and we long to get there as it is in our blood, it's strange but a kind of  longing to be there. We love the British soaps(coronation street and East Enders), and we are great lovers of British food as well. I wish you the best of luck in your writting and I hope you get to the UK. If you get there before us make sure to share all the details as we would love to know. Good Luck
                                                     Cad :)
