Roughly how much does the Fianceé visa run?
« on: December 03, 2005, 08:15:49 PM »
Few questions....

When do I start applying?

How long does it take usually ( I know it depends on certain situations)?

Do I make a visist to the British Embassy here in Los Angeles?

Does Neil (fiancé) make all the payments to his Embassy?

Should we use a company to help us through the process?

What would put me in the denial catogorey when going through customs?

Can Neil fly here (USA) to meet me so we can fly back to Scotland together ?

Can anyone tell me what needs to absolutely happen first!?

Thank you!

Caroline xxxxxx much appreaciated!

-You start applying around the day you want to move there.

-If you go in person you will get it the same day,if you mail it ,it will take a few weeks

-Yup heres the link to make your appointment https://www.britainusa.com/eappointments/losangeles/

-If he has a creditcard he can make the payment on the site. They don't accept UK checks and I don't think they accept any checks either for that matter. If he doesn't have a credit card you can make the payment at your appointment with a money order or your credit card

-You can use a company if you want but it would be a waste of money, As an American applying for it,it will be much easier for you. I think most if not all us here,  did it ourselves without a company

-I'm sorry I'm not getting what your asking? are you asking what reasons they have to deny you? or what reasons they have to stop you at the airport customs?

-yup he can

-Get all your paperwork ready before you do your application. Heres what you need http://www.britainusa.com/visas/other_show.asp?SarticleType=25&Other_ID=320

Also keep in mind that it'll be cheaper to get married in the US and apply for your spousal visa there (if you're wanting your fiance to be in the US when you apply for your fiancee' visa anyway).

What would put me in the denial catogorey when going through customs?

I don't understand what you're asking, either.  Are you confusing customs and immigration?

This is correct. If you guys marry in the US he won't need a visa. Then, if you want to move back to the UK, you just apply there and it'll cost only $494 ( plus shipping if you're posting it but since you said you're in LA, you can apply in person ). If you go the fiance visa route, you have to pay up $494 (it's the same as the spouse visa applied from the US ) then marry in the UK ( registration fees, wedding fees, what have you ) then applying for your spouse visa from the UK, which is 335 GBP ( ugh my pound sign doesn't work ) if you mail in the app, or 500 GBP to apply in person.

I wish I would've married in the US and then applied for the spouse visa but I went the expensive route.. left a ginormous hole in my bank account  :-\\\\
