i laboured with Calvin in a maternity t-shirt and pants (trousers! whatever!!). i was comfortable. and the midwife looked at me gone out when i asked for a hospital gown!! (i didnt know they didnt give them out readily here!!) a nightshirt would probably do the trick too:)

I had two planned c/s here in the UK so I wore hospital gowns.
In the US I had two natural deliveries but I also wore hospital gowns. With all four births I changed into my normal nightgowns after the births.

Remember to bring something warm for your tootsies too! Thick socks or slippers that are easy to slip on and off in case you do have a c-section. You will need them for walking the halls during labor (they do let you do this here in the UK also? It sometimes helps keep the labor progressing) and also something strange happens to your feet during labor and they can become quite cold!

On the snack issue...you might not feel well enough to eat much, but I found some good, sour lollypops to be just what I needed/wanted during labor (all that panting can dry your mouth! Oh...so bring your chapstick too!)

Yes I was going to mention warm wooly socks and slippers too. My feet are always cold anyway but after you have a c/s you have to wear those horrible circulation tights and I swear you feet freeze in them!
I wasnt allowed to snack on anything during my natural births in case they have to do emergency surgery. Do they allow that now?

I had some non-skid slipper socks that I wore when in labor and recovery.  They were great!

Yes, and to drink some water as well.  I have some Celestial Seasonings and Bigelow teas to flavour mine.  Mmmm.  They also encourage you to have a big meal before coming in if it's all going well.  I had a nice roast chicken meal before seeing the community midwife to ascertain if I were in 'established' labour and could go to hospital.

With every one of my labours I got sick upon the onset of labour. With Jordan it was Subway tuna sub, with Brett it was Chili's Smothered Chicken, Coby..never went into labour, Jack was quiche. If I ever went through another pregnancy I wouldnt eat anything while in labour! Of course this is coming from a woman that barfed at least twice a week for her entire pregnancy!  [smiley=puke.gif]

I have some 'nibbles' this time round - crackers, muesli w/dried fruit, nuts, etc.

Oh, yuck.  I was the vomit queen through all three of my labours.  I nearly threw up on Lizzy.   :P

You poor souls!  I had crap pregnancies.  But the second I gave birth it was like I went back to me again - no more vomitting, acid reflux, swelling, stomach all out of whack.  Pure bliss!

I've got a cold wee bottle of champers just waiting for me to pop this sprong!  Mmmm.  It's even called 'Pop'!

Not me.  I still have acid reflux from the last pregnancy eight years ago!

Mine also ended the second the baby popped out! Less than an hour after Brett was born I was downstairs in the gift shop getting munchables. The nurses had a helluva time keeping track of me that first day. They kept telling me I needed to rest. Forget it!  I felt glorious!!

I know what you mean!  I had nausea the whole pregnancy, but the moment she popped out, I couldn't wait to eat!  They brought me a tray of the "liquid, bland breakfast", even though my doctor had already given me the ok to eat the regular breakfast.  They ended up bringing me a tray of the regular breakfast as well and I scraped the plates on both of the trays!

Hubby sneaked me a curry from my fav Balti house.   ;D  I'd have awful acid reflux and been unable to enjoy my beloved curries.
