I get that too with Ellen.  She takes after my husband and is quite tall and thin.  I think her height is a little more unusual here than where we came from in the States, because people here think all the time that she is older than she is, whereas in the States, she was by no means the biggest kid in her group.  When we first moved over here, I used to get disapproving looks if Ellen threw a tantrum in a store or something.  I didn't realize until later that it is because people think she is quite a bit older than she really is.

My elder niece back in Houston is 5ft., 4in. - and just turned 11 in August.   :o  Whilst she is the tallest kid in her class, there do seem to be more taller folks there.  Her dad is 6ft., 5in., and his mum and sister are both 6ft., 1 in., so it does seem like she'll be quite lofty, but there appear to be a lot more super tall women there.

Her feet were normal when she was born.  Even now, they're not excessively big for a 2.5 year old.  But they're incredibly narrow.  Like her gran's.  And DHs.   :(

Isn't that scary?  Has she gone through puberty?  My niece has not at all.

She just started it a few months ago. It seems like she grows an inch a month!
Tallness runs in the family. My husband is 6'2,his dad is 6'0, his other sister is 5'9. and Courtney was 20 inches when she was born,so shes probably going to be right up there as well. I'm only 5'4, so I look like a midget standing next to them!

I was 21 inches at birth.  But I go to 5ft., 3 in. when I had puberty at 13 and that was it.   :(  There's no extreme height in my family, tho - you know, those 6ft, 4in.+ types.

My niece was 2ft. at birth, though.  Man, she was SO long.  The poor soul wasn't even pink anymore when she was born!  My sis had to have a C-section b/c Emily was 10lbs., 5 oz., too, and my sis is just 5ft., 1in.

Em would scrunch up for ages until she realised she was free to be her giant self, which she has been ever since.  Her dad's sister is even taller than her own husband - she's 6ft., 1 in. and played volleyball for the Air Force Academy where she went to college!  My BIL's mom is 6ft., 1in, too and his dad was 6ft., 5in., just like him.

Being tall is cool, but BIL says it can be a drag once you're over about 6ft., 2 in. and standard stuff doesn't suit you anymore - like cars, movie theater seats, airplane seats, clothes, shoes, etc.  He had to really mind his head when he was visiting historic sites here and in the Eastern US, too.

My fourteen year old "little" sister is 5'9 and growing She wears a size 10 1/2 shoe (usa size)!!!  :o My mom wears an 11 and my grandmother wears a 12...and they are 5'10 and 5'11. I'm just happy I missed out on the 'bigfoot genes' as they call them.

I am 5'3 and the shortest person on both sides of my family. Everyone else is at least 5'6. I feel like a midget when there are alot of them around. It can be slightly overwhelming at times. (they are all really loud and ummm...large....think my big fat greek wedding meets sweet home alabama...lol)

But in saying that, my last American boyfriend was 6'5 and the one before him was 6'4...lol!

I think that toddler's shoe sizes are the same in the UK and US.  Ellen was wearing a 6 in the US when we moved and is now in a size 6.5 in the UK.
