Honey
« on: December 05, 2005, 04:15:09 PM »
What's your favorite honey?  Not just brand, but also variety.  Back in the U.S., my husband did some work with a bee research lab at the university (they researched their communication, not their honey!), and was given a big jar of honey.  I'd only ever had generic honey from the grocery store and thought this stuff was marvelous!  Full of flavor with crystallized sugary bits throughout.  I think I was spoiled and want to try some other varieties of honey now.  Any suggestions?

I eat the manuka honey.
It doesnt taste any better/different from other honeys, but ive read about its healing/antibacterial properties, so i figure if im going to eat honey, i might as well eat the stuff with an extra wee bonus.  :)

I am spoiled. My neighbors here have beehives in their back yard and give us honey. I can't stand the generic stuff or the kind you get at fast food restaurants.

We get some local, organic honey in the farmer's market.  It just looks like the ordinary stuff that comes in the supermarket, but it's not.   ;D  We've been to see the farmer's hives.  Pretty neat!

there's a farmer from Penicuik w/lots of different kinds of honey, some of it in combs.

I like to use honey or maple syrup to sweeten things rather than refined sugar.

Actually- if you have allergies (seasonal/ hayfever/ whatnot) it's best to use local honey as it will build up your immunization to the pollen in the area.

Cool, huh? ;D

I prefer vinegar. No fly-catcihing here.
I know I'm late - where's the booze?

I was given a couple of jars of Scottish Heather Honey a few months ago.  It is FAB !!  It has a taste a bit different from our American honey.....must be the heather....duh....lol.

Waitrose has it:    http://www.waitrose.com/food_drink/foodexpertise/advert/honey/index.asp

I've always liked clover honey.  Of course I've never had any from the UK.  Here in the US though it's good stuff! :)
