Horseradish?
« on: December 11, 2005, 03:14:02 PM »
I've been having the worse luck finding horseradish!  Do they sell just plain horseradish or fresh horseradish root here?  I can find jars of horseradish sauce and horseradish cream, but not plain old horseradish!

I found plain horseradish at Sainsbury. It is made by the same company that makes Lazy Garlic and Lazy Ginger, in a jar. I think it was where the spices were.

Ah, I didn't even think to look by the Lazy Garlic!  That makes sense.  I've been looking by the mustards and sauces (where I've found the horseradish sauce) and then in the refrigerated area, because the horseradish I bought in the U.S. was refrigerated, by the cheeses.  Thanks!

To revive this horseradish thread...I looked in the lazy garlic/ginger area of my Sainsbury's and couldn't find any. Does anyone know if Waitrose has plain horseradish (either in the jar or fresh)?

At my Sainsbury's, I found the horseradish in jars just over the frozen foods (above frozen chips), where they have all the sauces on a shelf (HP, etc).

(Now I no longer go to Sainsbury's -- I've been doing the shop-online thing, and they deliver my groceries each week straight to the door!  I love it that way!  No impulse buys (crisps, chocolate in mass quantities), and I don't have to lug all the heavy stuff.  It's perfect.)
I leave for work at 7:10 each morning, and get home at 6:00 each evening.  Wish I could stay home all day and do nothing but sit around on UKY!  What a life!  And I have no Internet access in my classroom, so I can't just stop teaching and surf UKY.  Can you believe it??  Horrid, my job!

I think I found some at Asda a while back.  I'm out and I need to find some more and I can't find it at Sainsbury's.

They had the horseradish cream and sauce in the frozen food section, next to the mustard and such, but they didn't have the plain horseradish. I can't believe I'm even willing to buy it in the root form! I'm desperate! Thanks for the tip MrsPink. Unfortunately in Bath we have a shortage of supermarkets, so no Asda. We only have Sainsburys, Waitrose, and Morrisons. I'll probably end up paying high dollar at a specialty store in town.  :(

I've been able to find good quality horseradish at my "local" Polish deli.  Proper makes your eyes water stuff.   ;D

The green grocer down the street has it fresh! I've never dealt with it fresh, but I imagine I just peel and grate, right? Oh, and it comes in these huge pieces (MUCH larger than ginger root), so if anyone in the Bath area would like some fresh horseradish, I'm happy to share!  ;D

I wish they would as it would be cheaper! I thought about that as I typed it, but then I didn't think "high pounds or high quid" sounded right.  :-\\\\
