I've seen small packages in Sainsbury's when I was looking for Rye.  Both so small and so expensive!  I would kill for some rye toast!

I bought some rye at Sainsburys and it was - for lack of a better word - interesting.

Our local Sainsbury's doesn't seem to have pumpernickel.  I won't try the rye bread, thanks for the tipoff Cait! I want something to put smoked salmon and sour cream on at Xmas, I know I used to get pumpernickel in London, I can't remember where from but haven't seen any around here.

Liz, don't they do rye bread biscuits?  Would that work for you?

The package says: wholemeal Rye, baked for a fuller flavour.  BTW, just looked on Sainsbury's site and it was German rye bread that I bought.  Yuck.

http://www.cooksrecipes.com/bread/sourdough_pumpernickel_recipe.html

You can try to make your own.  I found this on line, but it is very similar to what I have in my files at home (not there now, or I would type it out for you).

Another thought is to grab a loaf of french bread and put your salmon on that.

Good luck!!

Well  I found some at Holland & Barrett but there is no molasses listed in the ingredients so dunno what it will taste like. It  looks right at least.

The stuff that you want to get at Sainsburys is called Baltic Rye. They sell it in the middle ailse, where the specially baked breads are.

Remember, Baltic Rye. It is actually Rye bread, and not that crap that they try to pass off as rye.
